Justin Verlander Gets Blackout Drunk On Kate Upton’s Birthday To Get Over Worst Game Ever

On June 15, 2014, Justin Verlander gave up seven runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work. The start also included four walks, a hit batter, and throwing only 16 first-pitch strikes to the 29 batters he faced. Verlander would call it his worst game ever. He’s had a few other stinkers this year that could probably compete for that title as well, but that’s not the point. The point here is how JV handled it. Did he hit the film room to see what tweaks he could make? Maybe read the fuck out of some scouting reports for his next opponent?

In an ESPN interview, JV’s girl, Kate Upton, revealed how Justin dealt with the poor start.

From ESPN:

“It was my birthday, and he had probably like his worst game ever, and no one had any idea how he’d respond to his worst game ever,” Upton said. “He vented to me in the car and was like, ‘I am going to get blackout drunk.’”

It’s called hitting the reset button. You can’t be upset about what you can’t remember. Verlander just uses the oldest trick in the book and gets shit-hammered wasted to suppress a bad outing — even if it’s his girlfriend’s birthday. You have to respect that..
