It was an upset though. Brits were crumbling at that point and the U.S. had yet to prove its self in a war. We were seen as an inexperienced army of kids going up against the battle hardened Nazi war machine. Then we decided to show em’ the ropes and crushed the Japs.
All in all we were an unexpected victor, and it was the financing we provided for the rebuilding of the world after the war that made us the most powerful economy the world had ever seen. So I’d say it was a pretty big upset!
Well worded FratStar1. I would like to add that if the true military capabilities of America were known (see Atomic bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki) we would have been considered the heavily favored military. Because of their lack of knowledge the bombs were more devastating due to the surprise factor.
“the U.S. had yet to prove its self in a war”
Disregarding your poor English skills, I will focus on the merits of your argument. How do you figure that we had not proven ourselves in a war? What do you call the American Revolution and the War of 1812, when we defeated one of the world’s greaters superpowers at the time with not much more than a militia? What about decisive victories in the Mexican-American and Spanish-American wars? And have you ever heard of World War I?
Maybe Fort Frat didn’t see that post first of all. Second why are we hating on a fellow fraternity man for honoring America’s efforts in WWII on this sacred day. Last why are we blaming him, doesn’t TFM.com screen all of the posts and approve ones they find to be true TFM’s?
This wasn’t copied or “reworded”. I had submitted this way back at the beginning of November. It’s not my fault that they waited literally 4 weeks to finally post it on the website. Sorry for being orignal.
Whether its been posted or not, still a respectable post. To paraphrase another already-posted TFM: it’s not our fault we’re the world’s top-tier fraternity. America. Fuck Yeah.
It’s not an upset if you’re undefeated.

The US hardly fought in WWI. We came in just as it was ending so we didn’t really prove any military capability in that war.
