Actually, for a state resident, LSU is extremely affordable. Even if you somehow manage to lose the full ride “TOPS” scholarship (available to any state resident who can make a 2.5 out of high school with a 22 ACT score) tuition is only around $3000 per semester.
If it’s a decent school, it doesn’t matter what you’re paying for it. Needlessly wasting money on an equivalent education is just fiscally irresponsible. If you want the money part of your family’s “old money” to continue then don’t waste it causelessly.
Attending a University of more prestige than an “equivalent” is not causeless nor is it a waste of money. I am unsure if I can explain it to someone like you.
With a few exceptions, private universities typically dont have greek systems, and the ones that do are usually not up to standard. WITH EXCEPTIONS. Private school is awesome for highschool and younger. Once you hit college to get into a real greek system you need to go to a major university.
$13,000 is the maximum amount that you can give on an annual basis without incurring gift tax liability. If your grandfather is still alive you could have gotten $26K.
Did you mean for your birthday? As a self-respecting man, especially one in a fraternity, you should be giving her a gift for her birthday. You don’t want to be this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plDyYtGhky8
