Pulling for anybody but the Rangers or Braves is NF. Good luck paying over 300 million to two over weight first basemen. No team with a defense as bad ass the Tigers will ever win the series, it may not effect them that much over the season but it will stick out like a sore thumb in the post season. Go Rangers. And Jon Daniels, keep up the good work.
People are blowing the bad defense card out of position. Even though Miggy’s currently saying he’s playing 3B this year, I guarantee you that him and Fielder will be strictly 1B/DH (maybe LF), and Inge (one of the game’s better defensive thirdbaseman, despite his bat) will be the primary 3B in 2012 (the problems will arise when VMart returns in 2013 and we have 3 DHs). The Rangers are a hell of a team, best hitters in the AL, but I’ll take my chances with Justin Verlander and company.
This year, yeah the Tigers and Rangers stack up pretty evenly. But in the long run, they have no room in their pay roll to sign any more free agents or to resign their core players. It is a move made in attempt to win this years series or next. They will regret it in 4 years when fielder weighs 400 lbs and doesn’t give a fuck anymore and Cabrera is stuck in jail for his 4th DWI.
istrongly about the payroll argument. Mr. Ilitch is 82, still hasn’t won a Series, and as he’s shown with the Red Wings, he is extremely willing to spend money; in fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if they signed Cespedes. But you’re dead right about the “win now” attitude, which I’m in full support of, even though it sacrifices down the road.
Only weakness I see with Texas is starting pitching, but Rangers are my pick this year, Tigers next. Don’t buy into the Fielder longevity argument, though; the guy’s missed like 2 games in 2 years and treats his body pretty well despite his size…he’s no Cecil.
In Obama’s defense, that does appear to be the correct form for chucking a spear.
