Miami Football Is Getting In Trouble Again, Which Means Championships Are Expected To Follow
University of Miami linebacker Juwon Young is possibly on the verge of being suspended from the team after emerging as a reliable contributor on defense last season by posting 54 tackles and 5 sacks.
From The Miami Herald:
The school announced Friday afternoon that Young has been suspended indefinitely for violation of department rules. Multiple people inside the UM football program do not expect Young to be on the team this season. One source cautioned it’s still possible he could return but he’s not in a good position.
The matter, according to a source, involved Young gaining use of a luxury vehicle from a car agency. It’s unclear if Young paid for the vehicle or if he intends to.
UM also is investigating whether standout defensive end Al Quadin Muhammad was involved with this car agency and whether he committed an NCAA violation.
Improper benefits? This is nothing new to college football, and certainly not newsworthy in most cases. However, this might be the signal that the U is coming back. One of the main focuses of both ESPN 30 for 30 features the school has been in is the attitude of the teams. In both cases, the culture that Miami established was one that allowed its student-athletes to intimidate other teams while being kids and acting crazy. With those championship days far behind them, many are nostalgic for the winning ways and polarizing attitudes that the U’s players once had.
All they have to do now is start winning. I’m sure most of you can recall their 58-0 loss to Clemson last year. Perhaps they can use that as fuel to become a hard-nosed and competitive team again, and rival the Miami football teams of the ’80s and early 2000s. I mean, it sure as hell doesn’t look that way, but who knows..
