Middle School Teacher Gives Homework Assignment On How To Sell Cocaine, Outrage Ensues

No matter how many books you read or math equations you calculate, being school smart and street smart are two completely different things. The more school smart you are, the more your street smart skills are likely lacking.

One middle school in Keller, Texas decided to try and combine the two schools of thought, and at least one parent is up in arms. Scott Pick, father of an 11-year-old sixth grader, says his son was catching up on some work at home when he was shocked by the title of one of the assignments: “The Cocaine Trade: From Field to Street.”

Pick says his 11-year-old son missed a few days of school at Bear Creek Intermediate in Keller after getting strep throat. Pick says he was going over his son’s make-up work for Science Class and came across the assignment in a section for “Following a Sequence”.

“I felt like they were giving my kid a diagram of how to become a drug dealer,” Pick said.

You’re right about that, sir. I guess we should just take away homework assignments about “economics” and “supply and demand” and “the 18 best ways to snort coke off a stripper’s ass while blacked out in Tijuana” while we’re at it too. Where will this PC BS stop?!

In all seriousness, this is a horribly awful assignment for a 6th grade class. Keller Independent School District issued a statement to KTVT saying, “Keller ISD takes the issue of drug abuse very seriously, and as such, allocates multiple resources to combat abuse through drug education and intervention. The study sheet in question will be reviewed before being considered for future use.”

Odd. Isn’t that the same language they used to justify teaching Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) to middle school students back in the day? I think we all know how ineffective that was. They should’ve called it “Intro To Buying Drugs 101.” That’s part of the reason why the program’s budget has dropped from $10 million to $3.7 million in 2010.

1. Drug cartel buys coca paste (made from coca leaves) from a Colombian farmer for $950 per kilo (2.2lbs)
2. Cartel “drug labs” turn the paste into powdered cocaine
3. Cartel smuggles cocaine by boat or plane into the U.S.
4. Large distributors buy cocaine from cartel for $25,000 per kilo.
5. Small distributors buy cocaine from large-distributors. Small distributors divide the cocaine into tiny amounts to sell “on the streets.”
6. Drug abusers buy small packets of cocaine from the street dealers (sellers). Buyers pay $87 a gram (a thousandth part of a kilo). Value of a kilo of cocaine on the street: $87,000.
