(UPDATED) Mizzou Campus On High Alert After Threats Of Racial Violence Hit Social Media
The University of Missouri campus has descended into complete chaos.
A comprehensive breakdown of all the events leading up to the headline-grabbing student protest — where a communications professor encouraged nearby “muscle” to forcibly remove a student journalist for simply documenting a public protest on public property — can be found HERE.
Mizzou police also encouraged students to notify them if they hear anyone using hurtful or hateful language. Yes, that really happened, too.
The situation at Mizzou has now taken a very dark turn, as posts made on anonymous social media outlets warn students to stay away from campus Wednesday. The threats of violence have been targeted at “black people” and “privileged white people,” and, while I tend to believe these threats are intended to stir up more drama and will not be carried out, they certainly sound pretty terrifying and should be treated sincerely.
MUPD is taking the threats seriously and has increased security on campus, according to Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin.
MUPD is aware of social media threats and has increased security. Call 911 immediately if you need help.

We’ve also gotten word that Mizzou sororities and fraternities are on lockdown until the situation calms.
Here’s to hoping the storm over Columbia soon passes and the University of Missouri community gets back to business as usual before anyone gets hurt. We’ll continue updating this story as details unfold.
UPDATE: Suspect has been apprehended.
From MU Alert:
University of Missouri Police have apprehended the suspect who posted threats to campus on YikYak and other social media. The suspect is in MUPD custody and was not located on or near the MU campus at the time of the threat. We will update this website as additional information is confirmed. MU is operating on a regular schedule.
Finally, a positive development at Mizzou..

This shit has to end.
10 years ago at 11:00 pmWhy*. Fuck.
10 years ago at 11:19 pmStop
10 years ago at 11:56 pmCould this possibly be your classic case of a coward posting anonymously on an anonymous website to do exactly what is happening? causing commotion and all?
10 years ago at 12:21 amcan anyone explain why they were even protesting in the first place? seems to have gotten lost in translation
10 years ago at 11:01 pmThe Great Invisible Shit Swastika, my friend.
10 years ago at 11:06 pmwell at the end of the day, these people will look back at their college experience and remember literal shit instead of fun memories with their friends. – signed, a frustrated jew
10 years ago at 12:06 amI don’t get why these pussies think that every other human must be kind and polite and accepting. No matter where you go there is always going to be something that someone does or says that you don’t like. Suck it up
10 years ago at 11:02 pmLet us first consider that maybe some of these students got into college on a technicality and then took an easy major in communications because it’s suitable. It’s not surprising that they share the same ideals as their thick headed ring leader Melissa Clink. When you have professors like her teaching mass media to marginal intellects, these things happen.
10 years ago at 11:27 pmtechnicality= non-caucasian
10 years ago at 12:39 amFuck the “white tears are worthless here” cunt. Seriously go shit a pincone. I think it’s ironic and bullshit as fuck that black on white racism isn’t racism, it’s justified
10 years ago at 11:04 pmI’m not siding with a race, but what your saying really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense…
10 years ago at 4:09 am*you’re, and I’m saying that it’s ironic that the race who initially faced racism responds in the same way to the previously oppressing race. It’s bullshit to blame a whole group of people based on the actions of a few or their ancestors, and people of a race that has faced racism should understand that the most
10 years ago at 11:12 amSays the guy with a violent racist as his moniker/avi.
10 years ago at 11:18 amI agree completely actually, I was just confused. Taking my deserved laps.
10 years ago at 12:40 pmIf not all white folks participate in the movement to end anti-black oppression, the movement goes nowhere. this is not an action specific “of a few or their ancestors” this is an action for every since person that benefits from white privilege.
10 years ago at 6:07 pmSorry to tag off the top comment but can someone explain why fraternities are on lockdown? Is there specific anti-Greek rhetoric or are they just playing it safe?
10 years ago at 5:54 amThere is a threat against “privileged white kids” and as we all know first hand, that’s the only kind of person in a fraternity as far as GDIs know or care.
10 years ago at 6:15 amOr as TFM has as commentators b
10 years ago at 2:13 pmwhat threat is that? Why is privileged white kids in quote? are you not that
10 years ago at 6:05 pmLongstreet and Wyler’s comments could not be more on the money. Prayers going out to everyone at Mizzou.
10 years ago at 7:00 amPolice just arrested the guy that was making threats on yik-yak
10 years ago at 8:52 amI just finished reading an article on The Washington Post(because it was the first I found) about a suspect being arrested. The article only mentioned that threats were made against students of color. No mention of threatened violence against “privileged white people” anywhere in the article.
Talk about violently biased, dangerous journalism. I know well-off white people don’t get clicks, but do your fucking jobs, Media. If anything were to happen, and you omitted part of the possible dangers, it’s on you.
10 years ago at 9:52 amGot a link to any evidence of the threat to “privileged white kids”?
10 years ago at 11:44 pmWait please say more p.s r u white
10 years ago at 6:04 pmThe same “activists” who claimed they wanted peace have carefully created sheer chaos. May those who are wrong on both sides be dealt with swiftly.
10 years ago at 11:04 pmI’m a student here and I cannot even explain the pandemonium going on right now. Every group seems to have been threatened in some way
10 years ago at 11:05 pmI can explain what’s going on: it’s become a total shit show.
10 years ago at 5:49 amAbsurd. These universities dug their own grave though by encouraging all of this PC nonsense.
10 years ago at 11:05 pmFiguratively speaking
10 years ago at 11:09 pmNice save
10 years ago at 3:09 pmSort of how the GOP encouraged nativist yokels and has trump as a front runner.
10 years ago at 2:15 pmHey jw have u ever face any form of systematic oppression? LIke have u ever been tokenized in a classroom because of the color of ur skin? aka anything but white? ur white ur white ur white ur white ur white, homeboy u are simply not entitled to say “PC nonsense” because it’s this very “nonsense” that is bringing justice and safety to folks who do not benefit from the system in the myriad ways that u do.
10 years ago at 6:10 pmMade an account just to give more information. There was an apparent white power rally at Speaker’s Circle and it’s now a ghost town. Everyone who is out right now is basically looking for trouble. All of Greektown is in lockdown and Chapter Directors are advising to not go to class tomorrow. Some professors refuse to cancel class, defending it with “If we cancel class then they win, we shouldn’t let them bully us around anymore.”. I’m a proud tiger but this is starting to get ridiculous, tensions are pretty high right now and all eyes are on the news and YikYak for more threats.
10 years ago at 11:13 pmwell at the end of the day, these people will look back on their college days and remember literal shit instead of awesome, fun memories with their friends- signed, a frustrated jew
10 years ago at 12:05 amreplied to wrong comment, still relevant though
10 years ago at 12:07 amNice save
10 years ago at 1:43 amThe shit swastika did not start the protests. There have been racism problems at Mizzou for a few years, and earlier this year a few drunk white guys yelled the n-word at our African American homecoming king. The Concerned Student 1950 group felt that MU systems president Tim Wolfe had not done enough to combat racism, and they called for his dismissal. And everything went downhill from there
10 years ago at 11:15 pmThen explain why shit boiled over just now.
10 years ago at 11:17 pm…it’s called the last straw you dumbass. He failed to handle another situation and they decided it was enough! Now they are peacefully protesting(which they have a right to do) and you guys are complaining. A white guy at MU gets man handled by a cop and you guys say it’s not ok. But when it happens to a 12 year old black girl you guys say “well then she should have listened”. Ignorance and Bias is present on both sides of the spectrum
10 years ago at 7:43 pm“Didn’t do enough”: hang whitey from the gallows
10 years ago at 5:51 am“Fight racism with racism makes sense.” -1950
10 years ago at 6:42 amAll these social media threats are ridiculous. What is the world coming to? There shouldn’t be threats of violence in schools.
