When NC State pitcher Will Gilbert threw one right across the plate on Monday — only for umpire Scott Higgins to call it a ball and allow Coastal Carolina’s Anthony Marks to walk to first — head coach Elliott Avent lost his shit (as he should have). He got in Higgins’ face, and when another umpire came between the two in an attempt to break things up, Avent busted out a filthy spin move to evade the interferer and continue the berating.

Damn impressive. Never underestimate the power of a baseball manager driven by rage. Here it is dubbed over with the audio from the cruel spin move Braxton Miller pulled on the Hokies last year — it adds a whole new level to it.

Coach Avent was ejected for the outburst, which is pretty soft on the ref’s part. The commentators said it best: this is a regional final with the season on the line. Everyone’s running hot. Can’t boot a coach for getting caught up in the moment. Let him yell your face off for at least a solid minute before ejecting him. That should be an official rule.

NC State’s season ended earlier today. Coastal scored four runs in the top of the ninth when play resumed at 2 p.m. after an overnight rain delay to win the game.
