NCAA Takes Massive Dump On Herb Brooks’ Grave, Completely Butchers His Legendary Speech

It might just be because I’m still a little drunk from St. Paddy’s day yesterday, but I just teared up watching Kurt Russell’s reenactment of former USA Hockey coach Herb Brooks’ iconic speech from before the 1980 Winter Olympics Miracle on Ice game.

I then clicked on the below video of the ending of the actual game, and teared up at that, too.

You can’t even call me a pussy (at least not for tearing, up in this particular instance). The Miracle on Ice game is just such an American moment. Grit and determination leading inexperience and youth to a shock-the-world victory over arrogance and communism. It’s beautiful.

And what does the NCAA do with beautiful things? Fucks them hard, in the ass, with a barbed wire dildo.

Taking an American icon’s speech about fucking up communists and the United States being the greatest country in the world (1/10 times, at least), completely jumbling it up, and then sticking “prioritizing academics, well-being & fairness” at the end? The 1980 squad wasn’t prioritizing well-being! They went out there and put their bodies on the line with hopes of pulverizing those Ruskis’ vodka-soaked organs!

Look at that. Not one, but two players laying out, willingly putting themselves in harms way, just to block a shot from the Reds. American heroes, both of them. All of them.

The NCAA running this commercial is like the Scottish soccer league using William Wallace’s Braveheart, only using the “they make take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom!” line, and then flashing a “fair play is the best play!” message at the end. It completely destroys the original message.

It’s a great speech, but it has its place, and this isn’t it..
