Nebraska Honored Their Late Punter With Awesome Tribute

It’s a sad fact of life that some of our closest friends and family will pass away long before old age takes its toll. In a perfect world, death would be an elderly man’s game, but unfortunately, it’s a major reality in our lives, even as college students and young adults.

Nebraska punter Sam Fultz died in a tragic car accident in Wisconsin on July 23, 2016 while attending a kicking camp. Also killed in the crash was former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler. Louisiana State University kicker Colby Delahoussaye suffered injuries to his legs.

It didn’t take long for Nebraska to honor their fallen teammate. With around 13:30 left in the first quarter in yesterday’s game against Fresno State, the Cornhuskers faced a fourth down. Out trotted the punt team, only without one major aspect of the squad – the punter. It wasn’t an early season mistake or a trick play, but rather a fantastic move to show their love and support for a beloved player. As the play clock struck zero, the entire stadium was on its feet. The Cornhuskers took a delay of game penalty before resuming play as normal.

I believe the commentator said it best, it was a poignant reminder as to how fragile life can be.

Fresno State also showed their support by wearing “SF” stickers on their helmets and I believe we declined the delay of game penalty. It was an awesome thing to be apart of and I wish the Nebraska football team the best of luck this season! Go Dogs!

As a Husker fan who attended the game yesterday, a big thank you to Fresno for the classiness. Nebraska will be rooting for the Bulldogs this season.
