Nobody Dies At EDC Music Festival For The First Time In Three Years

Somehow, for the first time since 2013, nobody died at EDC this year.

The final stats for Electric Daisy Carnival’s 20th anniversary have arrived. All in all, the 3-day festival saw an average of 133,000 people at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway each day, making for a grand attendance total of around 400,000 across the weekend.

Las Vegas Metro Police reported 101 felony arrests — up from the 76 last year. 617 total medical calls were made — down significantly from the 1,426 calls last year. Most noteworthy of all, no one died this year, making it the first time the festival has reported no fatalities since 2013.

Jury is out on whether EDM is frat or not (it wasn’t on the Official Not Frat Bracket so we’ll never know), but going to massive summer parties in Vegas with girls in nothing but pasties and a buttload of drugs most definitely is.

And on a Darwinian level, no party is truly awesome until somebody dies. Which is why it’s surprising that despite this being the hottest summer on record in the southwest and freshmen getting dumber every year, EDC actually cut their yearly medical call levels in half. One of my friends that went said there was “just a lot more water everywhere” and less of it “was spiked with something.”

As a man of medicine, I have to applaud EDC for getting their act together. Plus, I can see the felony arrests are up, which means people are still partying pretty hard. Good for them..
