North Texas Zeta Tau Alpha Member Murdered While DDing After New Year’s Eve Party

There is some horrible news out of Denton, TX. A member of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of North Texas was shot in the head as she drove some friends home following a New Year’s Eve fraternity party. (Update: There are conflicting reports as to whether or not she was at a fraternity party.)

Sara Mutschlechner, a 20-year-old Zeta, was taken off life support Friday evening after being found lying outside of her car by the Denton Police Department around 2 a.m. early yesterday morning. Those who saw the fatal shooting claim there was a small verbal altercation before shots were fired.

From Star-Telegram:

Witnesses told police that a black Lexus SUV occupied by “five or six black males” drove up next to the sedan and “several words were exchanged” between people in both vehicles, Kizer said. As the two vehicles crossed the University Drive intersection, someone in the SUV fired at Mutschlechner, police said.

Mutschlechner was struck in the head, and the car hit another vehicle before crashing. The SUV fled, police said.

This is what police found when they arrived on scene.

Friends of Sara had nothing but good things to say about her following the news of her death.

Mutschlechner “wasn’t a typical sorority girl,” Phillips said.

She had a “wide array of friends” across campus and a wide range of interests, Phillips said. She had earned a black belt in Taekwondo and wanted to open her own martial arts gym one day, Phillips said.

“She was an artist in many ways,” Phillips said.

A candlelight vigil will be held this evening on campus. All are welcome to attend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sara’s friends, family, and the sisters of UNT’s Zeta Tau Alpha chapter.

Under normal circumstances, I’d be compelled to joke that #sratlivesmatter, but as a Texan, this makes me sick to my stomach. Of course, somebody will find a way to demonize this poor girl, and probably make the animal who shot her out to be a victim of our “white dominated society.” Sadly, this is the world we live in. One where Martin Luther King Jr.’s words of love have become twisted and used to justify word’s of hate against innocent people for no reason other than the color of their skin being the same color as the people who oppressed them decades and decades ago. Once again, we live in a world where we are judged for the content of our color, not the content of our character; only this time, white’s are the new n*gger, while everybody else has the privilege of getting to play the victim whenever they commit a horrendous act.

I agree with the sentiment but no one sane will demonize that poor girl, even the BlackLivesMatter people

I disagree, somebody will have the balls to try and blame the girl and her friends by claiming they may have used racial slurs to antagonize the fine young men who were so upset and offended they felt the need to take her life.

Someone might yes, but that person will be insane and only the extremest of the extreme will agree with them. The majority of the Blacklivesmatter movement won’t

BLM is a hate group and borderline terroristic. To me they are extremists. I don’t care what they agree or disagree with.

It’s the same with feminism. They had good intentions at the start but people take it too far and it becomes extreme. Bear in mind that the extreme parts of the movement shout loudest. Blacklivesmatter at its core is not extreme. People made it that way

I don’t understand why sweeping generalizations about a race are posted in the event if blacks do something ridiculous and no such stereotype is made when any other race is the subject of an article. Let’s pay our respects to the slain young woman without race-baiting and hyperbole.

As talked about in another comment, the color of the accused individuals in the post and article is due to the fact that they are still at large and not apprehended. While it’s not a lot of detail, 5 to 6 black people in a car at that time frame and area does help narrow down possible suspects, and helps people who may have seen them report it to the police.

I know there a lot of fans here of southern tradition and America being the land of the free etc., but is being allowed to own a gun really worth it? They’re cool when used safely for recreation and might make you feel safe but stuff like this shows that they really don’t. I’m not a liberal, but where I grew up we never had this problem, and it is a problem. I love America – the country, the society, the values, but I can’t agree with people who think guns are a good thing

You’re missing the fact that gun ownership is thoroughly ingrained in our culture. It’s in the constitution. Prohibition of any product or substance is ineffective, especially when you look at the geo-political differences between Europe, the UK, in particular, I’m assuming, and the U.S. We share an incredibly porous border with Mexico, in which the Mexican government has no control over incredibly vast swaths of land that border the U.S. You share borders with Ireland and no one else, and all your neighbors are developed nations who ALSO have gun control measures. If you want guns in America, you’ll find them. You think a crack dealer in NYC gives a shit if guns are illegal? Hell no, he’ll still be packing. However, a law abiding citizen will inherently abide by the law, which would state he can’t own a firearm, giving all the power in conflicts to the criminal. It is nearly impossible to compare the U.S. to European powers.

Continuing your point guns are actually becoming a popular desired thing in Europe many people wishing they were more like us. Reason being the continent is getting flooded with North Africans and Middle Easterners from primitiave ass violent cultures and the streets of the major cities are no longer safe. Many white Europeans are literally begging the government to stop flooding them with 3rd world migrants but teh goverment keeps doing it cause you know this diversirty thing is supposed to be incredible

So your telling me if your in a situation where someone is trying to take your life or the life of a love one you wouldn’t want a gun? My dad keeps a Ruger semi automatic pistol under his bed because he knows it takes Law enforcement on average 30 minutes to respond to a 911 call where we live. You can disagree with the US gun control laws all you want but in the end you can’t take away a mans right to protect his family

Don’tQuitPledge you make a good point and I agree. I never actually said the US government should try and make guns illegal. It’s impossible as most people have one already and there would just be a huge black market.

TXpike did you know that statistically that gun your father keeps is much more likely to kill or injure a member of your family than an intruder. It does make you feel safe and I admit I’ll probably buy one if I live in the US, but I’d much prefer not to need it.

Fratsohard I don’t really agree. We don’t want guns in the UK, despite the refugees and immigrants. There has been a mass shooting every day in the US this year and people in Europe don’t want that kind of thing in their own country and blame guns for it happening in the US

Thatbrit, I just want to remind you that there’s basically a shooting in Chicago every hour it seems and yet guns are banned there. In my state they banned certain assault rifles and i am.. fairly.. certain that people buried them in their back yards with the serial numbers taken off. Guns aren’t going anywhere.

This will probably get lapped, but why does this tragedy have to a conflict of color? This could have easily been one where 5-6 white men were in the van and it would not diminish how horrifying this was. I know that the majority of people on this site are privileged white males, but it’s ignorance of the actual problem that is what’s wrong with society. People get way to obsessed with colors that they don’t realize that police need to step up their shit in north Texas regardless of what color people are.

The color was included because the suspects aren’t in custody and are still being looked for. No it shouldn’t be the highlight though.

Never pledge blacks. Africans have median IQ of 70 (sub- Saharan) while African Americans have median IQ of 85 tops. I know these weren’t fraternity guys, but blacks still pose danger to your house. Founding members of any house never intended this. Stay the hell away from these sub-humans.
