North Texas Zeta Tau Alpha Member Murdered While DDing After New Year’s Eve Party
There is some horrible news out of Denton, TX. A member of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of North Texas was shot in the head as she drove some friends home following a New Year’s Eve fraternity party. (Update: There are conflicting reports as to whether or not she was at a fraternity party.)
Sara Mutschlechner, a 20-year-old Zeta, was taken off life support Friday evening after being found lying outside of her car by the Denton Police Department around 2 a.m. early yesterday morning. Those who saw the fatal shooting claim there was a small verbal altercation before shots were fired.
From Star-Telegram:
Witnesses told police that a black Lexus SUV occupied by “five or six black males” drove up next to the sedan and “several words were exchanged” between people in both vehicles, Kizer said. As the two vehicles crossed the University Drive intersection, someone in the SUV fired at Mutschlechner, police said.
Mutschlechner was struck in the head, and the car hit another vehicle before crashing. The SUV fled, police said.
This is what police found when they arrived on scene.

Friends of Sara had nothing but good things to say about her following the news of her death.
Mutschlechner “wasn’t a typical sorority girl,” Phillips said.
She had a “wide array of friends” across campus and a wide range of interests, Phillips said. She had earned a black belt in Taekwondo and wanted to open her own martial arts gym one day, Phillips said.
“She was an artist in many ways,” Phillips said.
A candlelight vigil will be held this evening on campus. All are welcome to attend.
Tomorrow night we will be hosting a candlelight service for Sara at the Greek Life Center. It will begin at 8pm and everyone is welcome.
