Organization Formerly Known As Lambda Chi At UCF Publicly Rushing With The Selling Point Of “No Rules”

My time at UCF was chock-full of conflict with OFSL and even my fraternity’s nationals. You throw a few unregistered summer parties and turn your backyard into an illegal, but very profitable, bar operation and suddenly the university starts to give a damn about your existence. If anything I was just being efficient. No need to waste both paper and the precious time of the administration with something you clearly would have nixed from the get-go.

It was through these constant struggles with the school and chapter officials that the idea of going underground gained some serious traction amongst brothers, all with me sitting in the driver’s seat of the bandwagon. We never went through with it. Frankly, we didn’t have the balls. Plus I could see the disappointment in my big brother’s eyes, who at the time, was a recent grad and heavily involved as a fraternity advisor. I just couldn’t destroy something he put so much time and effort into with one swift, rash movement. Reason prevailed.

However, when your nationals pulls your charter, there’s no reason not to go scorched earth. That’s what the organization formerly known as Lambda Chi Alpha at UCF is currently doing, and in a very public way.

Usually Greek organizations that go off the school’s grid typically try to stay afloat quietly, but not the Gazoni family.

Personally, I love this move and their zero fucks mentality, but I’m not big on the rebranding. Maybe it’s just me, but this move has more of a Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, N.W.O. professional wrestling vibe going on than the guido, mobster family thing they went with. Missed opportunity there.

Sneaky best part about all of this is that one of their huge selling points is the amount of pull they have at local bars. Typically, we’d advertise the amount of brothers that had internships at Lockheed Martin, Siemens, or even my whole NBC Sports connection, but not these guys. They want you to know that they’re 100% in the Greek game to rage. You just got to respect that kind of commitment.

No idea how this plays out over the next few months, but to say I’m intrigued would be the understatement of the century.

      Hey Squirt,

I can tell you’re new here. How about you graduate high school before you talk business with the grown ups.

Also, you have a stupid fucking user name

I know it’s funny and all, but honestly I’m kind of disappointed with this. As a brother of Lambda Chi, this is downright disrespectful to the rest of us. I know they got shut down for some dumb things, but take it like a man and try to improve, not make an ass out of us.

Brother to brother, I’m gonna tell you to pipe the fuck down and quit being so sensitive. I’m a chop and I love the effort. Will it work out in their favor? Probably not. But it’s worth a shot, at least for a good story.

I still rather have my letters than belonging to a drinking club. Having to hide things from nationals and the school is something every fraternity has to go through, anarchy is not frat.

I wish them all the best with going underground. It’s a shame they were booted off in the first place. However, they need to remember that all UCF has to do is threaten to expel anyone in the group if they want to end it. (I’m not sure if this is legal for a public school to do, but private universities sure can do it.) Perhaps being so brazen about their new status is not the best idea.

There is absolutely no way a public or private school can expel someone for being a part of an organization that has no connection to the school. Uncharted fraternities have existed for some time without any troubles.

There are local Greek organizations at my school. Many schools have them. Just former national chapters that got the boot and wanted to retain the brotherhood or sisterhood. They cannot threaten to expel you for joining an organization that has no affiliation with the school. They hate seeing them wear letters on campus but they cannot do anything about it other than make it clear that they cannot host rush events on campus. Just because they are no longer national does not mean they are automatically drinking clubs. They still function as if they were on-campus, they just happen to wear different letters. Yes, some are basically drinking clubs but you could say the same for some national chapters as well.

I’m sorry, but you’re simply incorrect about private universities not being able to expel students for joining local fraternities. They absolutely are able to do that—just look at Amherst, as another poster pointed out. Moreover, the director of Greek life at my alma mater told me once that he wished he could expel all students who continued membership in the locals, but he wasn’t able to convince the higher-ups to go along with it. Again, it’s not a matter of whether they’re able to. It’s a matter of whether they’re willing to.

I don’t disagree with your other points, but they’re tangential to this issue in particular.

Although I see huge potential for this to backfire, I respect that they weren’t afraid to advertise a bunch of completely legal points that the rest of us probably wouldn’t due to university pressure.

Cornell College fraternities and sororities do not have nationals, for over 100 years. The college only controls about 20% of their functions, if held on campus. Part when you want. Pledge how you want. Mainly you answer to your alumni.

I’m intrigued as well. I feel underground/ local chapters essentially, definitely work for sororities.
