I was there, there was no violence or looting or really any laws being broken other than people jaywalking and fucking around in the street. It was just a bunch of happy drunk college kids celebrating after the win. I can understand the cops trying to clear High Street, but I don’t understand the urgency that made them use tear gas and pepper spray. Columbus is a city on a grid system, there are plenty of other streets that were clear. Who in the hell, if they really needed to be somewhere at midnight on a Monday night after the national championship, would choose to go down High Street, where all of the college bars are?
I’m going to assume that since this video is edited that there was perhaps some sort of incident not in the clip that provoked such a response. perhaps some kid got up into a cops face and said “fuck the police” or something like that and started presenting himself in a threatening manner. It could also have been the result of a failing to comply with a dispursement order . but then again I wasn’t there so I don’t have much say in the matter
Yeah I was there too and all I know is that I came out of the bar to getting a fog of tear gas to my face. Kinda put a damper on the celebration but yes, zero percent chance I went to class today. Walked halfway there and decided it wasn’t worth it
Damn mall cops always ruin the fun.
11 years ago at 9:45 amWhat the hell makes them think it’s okay to start pepper spraying everybody?
