Phi Kappa Tau at Miami of Ohio Sues School for $10,000,000

Ten miiiiiiillion dollars…

Ten million dollars? After reading the title of this story from the Youngstown, OH news and the dollar amount involved, I was expecting a whopper, something along the lines of wrongful fraternity house seizure, demolition, mass expulsion and mandatory vasectomies. It’s just over a suspension, though – a suspension involving a fireworks battle between neighboring fraternities and some drugs, probably just a couple under-the-mattress spliffs. They altogether skipped the grassroots campus petition campaign or a Winkelvoss meeting with the Dean and went straight for eight figures in damages.

Phi Kappa Tau was one of two fraternities suspended after an incident earlier this month involving a fireworks battle between frat houses that police say led to the discovery of illegal drugs.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Phi Kappa Tau claims in the lawsuit that the university acted recklessly and maliciously when they imposed the punishment. The federal action also claims the suspension interferes with the fraternity’s business operations and violates members’ constitutional rights.

How’d they come up with that figure? This makes me think of Dr. Evil’s demands with the U.S. government after his cryogenically-frozen hiatus from society, when he tries to audaciously stick them for a million bucks. Only his demand was a low-ball.

I predict they settle out of court for some free textbooks and a prime tailgating plot adjacent to the football stadium.

That’s a bold strategy Join_Or_Die, but let’s see if it pays off for them.

Definitely. The firework battle was probably with one of their neighbors, ΣΑΕ or Sigma Chi.

It was SAE. Sigma Chi is kicked off until 2015 haha. Two of our 4 alpha houses are vacant right now.

Sounds like one of the probation sanctions is that they will not be able to pledge anybody in the fall. So somebody is going on a grumpy rampage about it. If they were FAF then they would underground anyway, despite what the University says.

Pledge season is second semester at Miami. If a fraternity has pledges first semester, that generally means they are shitty.

The pic for this article is perfect, and I read the title in Dr. Evil’s voice
