Purple Heart Recipient Turned Representative Verbally Nukes Fraudulent Veteran Disability Claimer

During a House Oversight Committee meeting yesterday, Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D Ill.) took it upon herself to defend the righteousness of our nation and provide one of the most compelling Congressional hearing commentaries you’re likely to witness this year.

Duckworth, who was awarded the Purple Heart after losing both legs and the use of her right arm in 2004 while serving as a helicopter pilot in Iraq, took the Congressional floor to provide some justified admonishment to Braulio Castillo, a swindling business owner who has been using a loophole to collect Veteran’s Disability at an astounding 30% grade.

Castillo, who suffered a broken foot while attending the U.S. Military Preparatory School some 30 years ago, has been using the injury to collect military benefits to this day, as well as operate a technology company certified as service-disabled and veteran-owned, enabling him to obtain exclusive government contracts.

The kicker?

Well, Castillo never actually served in our nation’s armed forces, and despite his “injury,” still went on to play college football. The guy is the true definition of a sleaze ball, and Rep. Duckworth served him up exactly what he had coming to him by refuting the claims he’s been passing off to the VA in attempts to warrant his benefit collection, and she did it in front of the entire House of Representatives.

“I’m so glad that you would be willing to play football in prep school again to protect this great country,” she said. “Shame on you, Mr. Castillo, shame on you. You may not have broken any laws…but you certainly broke the trust of this great nation. You broke the trust of veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans right now are waiting an average of 237 days for an initial disability rating. It is because people like you who are gaming the system are adding to that backlog that young men and women who are suffering from post-traumatic stress, who are missing limbs cannot get the compensation and the help that they need.”

Man, this lady, her fierce passion for justice, the well-being of veterans in our country, and her evisceration of this disgusting fraud of a fellow, make me damn proud to be an American.
