Rhode Island Football Players Arrested After Beating Chi Phi Brothers Senseless
Two University of Rhode Island football players were arrested early Sunday morning after a confrontation at the Chi Phi house sent multiple fraternity brothers to the emergency room. Barrett Lyons and Michael LeBlanc are currently facing misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges that could be upgraded to felonies pending the outcome of their investigation. Six Chi Phis suffered several injuries as a result of the conflict, ranging from broken noses, arms, and jaws, to severe lacerations. Three brothers, who must have taken the brunt of the damages, were transported to South County Hospital.
LeBlanc has since been dismissed from the team and Lyons was put on indefinite suspension. Five other football players are also under investigation by the team and university regarding the incident. What led to the brawl is still unclear.
Call it a hunch, but I think I cracked the case on how this came about:

So is the whole football team getting kicked off campus to pay for the mistakes of only a few individuals? Coaches need to be included too.
11 years ago at 2:21 pmCan I safely assume that the entire football has been disbanded and barred from campus events? No? I’m shocked.
11 years ago at 2:27 pmLooks like it’ll still be an easy win for my Blue Hens this weekend.

11 years ago at 3:51 pmCan someone from URI weigh in on this?
11 years ago at 4:18 pmFirst I’ve heard of it. It’s honestly the only thing I’ve heard about the football team here at all.
11 years ago at 4:45 pmour football team here is an absolute joke, they can’t win games and they get pissed and try to get into the parties off campus. But when they get in they just start fights and drink all the liquor, so we don’t let them in at all. this is definitely not the first or the last time that this will happen. the only reason that this is getting any press is because it happened on campus and our director of student life is gunning for charters. i hope those guys make a speedy recovery for homecoming next weekend
11 years ago at 8:32 amThe football players here at URI wouldn’t have made my high school team. It’s basically a club organization.
