SAE Alum Makes The Ultimate Gift To Save A Brother’s Life

A lot of people in the outside world see you frat dudes as selfish, but I know that’s not the case. As much as you occasionally act like complete morons, most of you are actually pretty decent guys, who would do almost anything for one of your brothers. Most of you are like Tom Rigdon.
Tom is a member of the 1970 class at Westminster College in Fulton, MO, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. It was there that he met Rod Mohler, who was a year younger and also a member of SAE. Fast forward 43 years to 2013: Rigdon is an attorney, and Mohler runs his own construction business. They had kept in touch and gotten together occasionally over the years, so when Mohler was diagnosed with kidney disease, Rigdon regularly checked on him. Mohler placed himself on the kidney transplant list, but, by 2015, no match had been found. That’s when Rigdon volunteered to donate a kidney to Mohler.
It turns out that Rigdon was a match, and on March 9, 2015, the surgery was performed. Today, both men are doing fine; they are both back to work and living their lives in good health.
According to the Fulton Sun, Mohler is eternally grateful to Rigdon. “Tom Rigdon went above and beyond what any friend could ever be expected to do,” Mohler said. “Words can never express how grateful I am that he has given me my life back.”
He may have gone above and beyond what a friend would do, but we all know that brothers always have each other’s backs..
