Science Proves Cardinals Fans Have The Worst Grammar In the League
Do you often find yourself correcting grammatical errors? Are you plagued by egomaniacs that can’t properly put intelligent thoughts to paper? Congratulations! You made it to the comments section. Either that or you’ve refined your Twitter feed to within ten miles of Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Best Fans in Baseball, according to themselves, are also the least grammatically competent, according to a study by Grammarly.

The standings were compiled by scooping up 3,000 comments longer than 15 words left at each of SB Nation’s 30 Major League Baseball team blogs for two weeks at the beginning of June, a much larger sample size than last year’s study of 4,500 fan comments culled from MLB.com. They then fed all 90,000 lulz, ill-considered thoughts, and raging piles of words that make up your standard sports blog’s comment section into their online editor to “detect grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation errors in each comment and used the sums to calculate the average number of errors,” Grammarly said in a press release.
The actual graph is shown below, and the top result for each league really isn’t all that surprising.
Now, those morons in Missouri are going to try to tell you those numbers are a result of the fact that their universally unbearable fanbase is plagued with bandwagoners. That’s what happens when a team, admittedly, gets very good at winning. Since that larger fan population is plagued by folks who can’t form their own opinions, it’s no wonder they are incapable of coherency. That’s also why the Tribe and the Marlins are so low: Cleveland was still in the midst of a championship drought by June 14, and the 14 game winning streak wasn’t even off the ground yet!
It’s just another shining example of misleading statistics, something native son Mark Twain would have a bully time laughing about. To that, I ask the following: Do you really trust a group of people incapable of forming sentences to have any knowledge of statistics? I sure as hell don’t.
Still, if you can’t take my word for it, how about we take a look at some shining examples of their Cardinal (ha) errors.
