Shots Fired At Arkansas State University Alpha Gamma Rho Party

Sometimes, spending the summer at the fraternity house can be pretty mundane. Not as many people are in town, large social events are less likely to occur, and people can be busy with a combination of work and summer classes. Given that, you have to adapt to the situation you’re faced with and find a way to have a good time.

The men of the Arkansas State University Alpha Gamma Rho chapter found a way to have a good time. They, like many before them, decided to throw a party.

That’s not really unusual. After all, we’re fraternity men. That means a few things. We like to shit with the door open, we talk about pussy, we go on riverboat gambling trips, and we make our own beef jerky. That’s what we do.

We literally have done all of those things.

AGR threw a party. No big deal, right? I’m sure it was your standard midsummer fraternity party. Scantily clad women, gratuitous amounts of alcohol, and the usual drunken debauchery we hold so dear were probably ubiquitous that evening. However, at some point, things went to the next level.

In the early hours of June 23rd, ASU police officers on patrol heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes. As you would expect, they went into action quickly. Officers from the university’s police department, as well as officers from the Jonesboro Police Department, responded and went to what they determined was the source of the gun fire. That turned out to be the Alpha Gamma Rho house.

Upon arriving, the cops began questioning people, but those present denied even hearing the gunshots. Things changed, however, when someone came forward and admitted to firing the weapon.

19-year-old Carlton Teague Phillips told police he fired two rounds of an AK-47 into a sand pit at the frat house.

I admire his honesty, but I have to wonder what was going through his head. I can only assume he realized he fucked up and was going to try to save others from getting in trouble because of his actions.

If that was his intent, sadly, his plan failed. Sixteen other party-goers were arrested for underage possession of alcohol. Additionally, someone got busted for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Look, it sucks to get busted, but I can kind of see why this happened. As much as I love giving university police shit, they are still cops. If shots were fired on my campus, I’d hope they’d respond as quickly as possible.

Let this serve as a lesson to anyone thinking about taking a composite from Arkansas State’s AGR house, though. They’ve got AKs and they’re not afraid to use them.

Did nobody see a dude walk out of the house with an AK and a magazine loaded into the weapon? I mean, did this not raise any red flags in anyone’s mind? The AK makes a distinctive sound when a round is chambered. If he chambered it in the house, he endangered even more of his brothers. What did this clown expect to accomplish by shooting into a sand pit?
