Sigma Chi Suspended For Brewing Their Own Beer, Pike Suspended For Partying At California University

Sigma Chi was busted for brewing beer in their chapter house. Boom. Two-year suspension.

Pi Kappa Alpha hosted an “Around-the-World” party. Slam. Three-year suspension.

The hell is going on at California State University, Chico? All Greek chapter houses are required to be alcohol-free, per the state Education Code, so they violated that regulation. More to the point, though, university president Paul Zingg seems like a total square.

The California State University, Chico has announced the suspension of Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Chi Fraternities for violations of University policies governing social Greek letter organizations. Pi Kappa Alpha has been suspended for three years, Sigma Chi for two years.

“The University has said that we will have an exemplary Greek system, or we will have none at all,” said Paul Zingg, President of the university.

Two and three years for brewing and pounding some cold bronsons? Seems a bit harsh, Zingger. Granted, Sigma Chi was already on probation for hosting a party the previous year, and Pike was warned by some cockamamie organization called Student Life and Leadership not to follow through on their plans for the party, but I’ve witnessed more egregious conduct violations walking across campus between Monday morning classes.

The University stated Pi Kappa Alpha was suspended for hosting an “Around the World” progressive party April 13 at three different private homes in downtown Chico. Alcohol was available at all three houses.

Sigma Chi was suspended after beer making by one of its officers was discovered in the chapter house. All Greek chapter houses are required to be alcohol-free, and the manufacture of alcoholic beverages by a recognized university organization is a violation of the state Education Code.

As it turns out, every fraternity and sorority at the university was suspended in November of 2012, “following a series of incidents including alcohol policy violations, allegations of hazing, alleged assaults and other violations of rules governing Greek life on campus.” I suppose the suspensions make more sense now, maybe even a lot of sense.

As long as Zingger doesn’t catch wind of what’s going on, this school sounds like a decent place to roadie to for a weekend.

    Wait a minute… Pike had a party at private, off-campus houses, and still got suspended? Pardon my french, but what the fuck is going on here when you can get busted for doing your own thing off campus?

      ^^^Thank you for saying this. Its complete bullshit that they got into trouble for that. Last year 3 people were run over by a bus ferrying people to a private party for Sigma Chi, but they didn’t get into trouble because the pick-up site for the bus was off-campus.

    Way to go Chico State you just killed your Greek system. These are two of the top fraternities in Chico and not to mention the two most attractive fraternities. These boys are the only reasons I ever even considered joining a sorority at Chico. Sig for life and Love PIKE.

    Pike’s Around The World party was one of the top ragers at CSU Chico. I’m not in Pike but I gotta hand it to them. Those bros know how to party! They had the hottest girls, best DJs, strict security, and a great party fratosphere. It’s really a shame that Zingger doesn’t like to party like these guys do.

    This is ridiculous. We had 8 people die from drinking too much. The greek system here is worthless. They give our school a bad rep. You all seem to think this violates your freedom in some way but it doesn’t. Every greek member at Chico agrees to this stuff when they sign up. If you want to party and drink, don’t join a fraternity, because we don’t want that here. I honestly hope all the greeks are shut down in Chico.
