The only reason the north won the civil war was due to railroads. And actually Ulysses Grant lost a higher percent of soldiers compared to the south. So these better tactics you speak of was really the north throwing a shit ton of soldiers at the south. Also the northern army was huge compared to the south at the time and at a time when you could maybe shoot 10 rounds down range per minute (not sure if repeaters had been invented yet) size mattered. Also being the industrial center of America the north was better supplied. So the north had better transportation so their troops would arrive less fatigued ad with more supplies, better output of military supplies, and more soldiers. But they didn’t win a single battle until for a very long time even with all of these advantages. Just putting it out there.
