Some masters programs require their students to teach a lab class, extra class, or be a TA. Or the options for it are beneficial like a reduced cost to tuition.
I run lab prep for one of the undergrad bio classes (senior this year, staying one more). A bunch of the undergrad bio TAs here are greek, mostly because the university pays like 2000 a semester to do it and you really don’t do shit.
I get like 3500 a semester to do what I do, but I’m the only one running prep for the course and I don’t have to deal with people bitching at me about their grades. It’s a win-win. It’s actual work, but it looks amazing on a grad school resume and the schools I want to apply to (Hopkins, UVA, Michigan, UC Santa Barbara and Chapel Hill) are all crazy competitive.
and before anyone asks, yes, I make sure to help out brothers in need that are in the class. I’d be a shitty brother otherwise.
Parents agreed to cover everything but my alcohol expenses and my dues. Dad figured I should work in college to save some money of my own and ensure that I have a decent work ethic, so no, not poor. My parents just don’t want me to act like an entitled bitch.
My family lives comfortably, even though the economy is in the shitter right now. Like you said, not multi-millionaires but not really hurting on the money either.
So your brother is a GDI?
14 years ago at 8:10 pmI’ve seen TA’s that were in fraternities. Rare but it happens
