I just think the idea of Jesus Christ as a fraternity man is an outlandish and ridiculous attempt to shoehorn a historical event into a contemporary paradigm. Legacy? C’mon.
And the only thing remotely analogous to the Passion in fraternity life is being hazed. Insofar as His death and Resurrection were his primary purpose for being here, if you think the analogy of Passion to hazing is too far or disrespectful (and it probably is) then you should probably see the entire analogy as ridiculous and disrespectful.
I mean, if God is so forgiving and powerful, why did he need to send down “his own son” to free us of our sins? Even now, we had Jesus (maybe), so whats the point in asking for forgiveness?
“oh hey god, I can just sin all I want, right? You tortured and killed your own son for us and all….”
And boy did they haze the fuck out of him.
