‘The League’ Star Lies About Escaping From The World Trade Center On 9/11
Steve Rannazzisi, known for playing Kevin on The League, sometimes told talk show hosts and stand-up audiences that he was inspired to pursue his dream of being a comedian after narrowly escaping from The World Trade Center on 9/11. When it was revealed that Rannazzisi was actually in Midtown during the attack, he took to Twitter to issue a public apology.
After I moved with my wife to Los Angeles from New York City in 2001 shortly after 9/11, I told people that I was in one of the World Trade

Center towers on 9/11. It wasn’t true. I was in Manhattan but working in a building in midtown and I was not at the Trade Center on that day

I don’t know why I said this. This was inexcusable. I am truly, truly sorry.
For many years, more than anything, I have wished that, with

silence, I could somehow erase a story told by an immature young man.It only made me more ashamed. How could I tell my children to be honest

when I hadn't come clean about this?

it is to the victims of 9/11 and to the people that love them–and the people that love me–that I ask for forgiveness.

Rannazzisi says he made the false claims when he was an “immature young man,” but the 37 year-old told his 9/11 story during an interview in 2009.
Pete Davidson, a young comedian on Saturday Night Live whose father was a firefighter killed on 9/11, responded to the apology with this tweet:
It's ok @SteveRannazzisi people make mistakes … Can't wait to meet my dad for lunch later
— Pete Davidson (@petedavidson) September 16, 2015
Rannazzisi, presumably unaware of what happened to Davidson’s father, tweeted back with this (now deleted):

How do you dig a hole even deeper for yourself after the world finds out you lied about being in 9/11? That’s how. Davidson fired back with this:
I think you missed the point … https://t.co/Fk9imfD6ut

I know Rannazzisi lied about probably the worst thing a human could lie about in America, but I almost feel bad for the guy. He is currently experiencing the online equivalent of the Game Of Thrones finale, where Cersei was forced to walk naked in the street while the entire city literally shat all over her.

By now, he must be huddling in his bathtub, sobbing and eating string cheese. Davidson decided to show him some mercy.
Take it easy on @SteveRannazzisi … He reached out to me and is truly sorry. We all sometimes lie and exaggerate a story to seem cooler …

Props to Davidson. He could have continued to drill away at the second asshole already torn through Rannazzisi’s taint, but instead, the young comic spared him from (at least some) further humiliation. Truly a class act..

Motion to blackball Rannazzisi.
