The Official 2016 Not Frat Bracket: Sweet Sixteen

NOTFratBracketSweet16

The Official 2016 Not Frat Bracket is here.

Earlier this year, your votes determined that Natural Light is 2016’s frattest thing. Now, it’s time to find out what reigns supreme at the opposite end of the spectrum — what is 2016’s most NF (not frat) thing? That’s up to you to decide.

We’re down to the Sweet Sixteen, and, while a 1 seed has already bitten the dust, we still have a 14 seed and two 13 seeds in the mix. Astounding. How will these Cinderellas fare in the round of sixteen, though? Let’s get to our first region.

Note: Bracket regions are named after the four main frat regions in a purely ceremonial manner. The things listed under them do not necessarily have any specific relationship with that respective frat region.

Polls will be closed Tuesday, July 5

The East Coast Region

#1 Socialism vs. #5 Veganism

Top-seeded socialism looks to tear down veganism here in the Sweet Sixteen. This is a interesting matchup, because personally, I believe vegans to be more annoying than socialists. Socialists, however, have more power when it comes to their ability to fuck up my livelihood — vegans can just be tuned out or avoided altogether via staying away from farmers’ markets and Whole Foods, but socialists have the ability to enact political change.

#2 Hillary Clinton vs. #14 Hot Topic

Wow. A politician who’s all about covering things up and a clothing company that is all about covering up goths, facing off in an epic skirmish for the ages. It’s times like this that I can’t believe ABC denied my request to turn the NF Bracket into an animated series starring the bad guy from the Disney channel original movie Brink and “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?” artist Paula Cole. Their loss.

The West Coast Region

#1 Cargos vs. #13 Skintight jeans

THE BATTLE OF THE TROUSERS! Tough draw for Cinderella 13 seed skintight jeans. Seeing as skintight jeans just jumped onto the mainstream scene within the last 5 or so years, this is a matchup between the time-honored NF champion and a young, untested upstart. Let’s see what happens, though I think we all know how this one goes down.

#2 Safe spaces vs. #3 PETA

Whereas skintight jeans are an untested upstart, Safe spaces are the Jordan Spieth of this bracket. They’re very new, but very, very good. PETA is an NF journeyman — always showing up and making cuts, but never quite breaking through. Is this PETA’s big break?

The Midwest Region

#1 North Korea vs. #4 Vaping

If you combine these two, you get a country where you get sent off to the gulag for not noticing that Kim Jong-un modded the fuck out of his atomizer. I’ll never understand how North Koreans can stand living in such a shithole, and I’ll never understand how vapers can walk around all day with a mini desktop computer-looking gizmo hanging from their lanyard necklace. I don’t care who wins this battle, honestly. Both deserve the shame that comes with NF Bracket victory.

#2 Trigger warnings vs. #6 Poetry slams

I wouldn’t know from experience, as I’ve never been to a poetry slam, but I bet modern day slams are rife with trigger warnings. Your poem mentions a gun? TRIGGER WARNING. Your poem makes a veiled reference to the fact that injustice exists? TRIGGER WARNING. Your poem contains the word “pear,” which is an anagram for “rape?” TRIGGER WARNING TRIGGER WARNING TRIGGER WARNING. Both of these are beloved by hipsters, making them both highly NF.

The South Region

#2 Bernie Sanders vs. #3 Feminism

Sanders supporters feel the Bern, but so do feminists (it’s generally due to chafing caused by their copious amounts of body hair). It’s socialism vs. social justice in this matchup fit for a dumpster.

#8 Gun control vs. #13 Filing a noise complaint

Gun control managed to bring down 1 seed protesting, so it has some insane momentum heading into its matchup against Cinderella story filing a noise complaint. We all know how NF being a tattle-tale is, though. Snitches get stitches, but do they get past gun control? Let’s find out.

The Elite Eight will be announced Wednesday, July 6.

95% of them are just various qualities of hipsters. Can we just give the NF championship to piece of shit SJW Hipsters.

Final Four is going to be Hillary, Safe Spaces, Trigger Warnings, and Feminism and Hillary/Feminism will ironically square off in the NF championship. Talk about an impossible vote to cast.

I really hope that “gun control” making it this far is a response to the calls by the left to repeal the 2nd amendment and shit like that, and not an indication that you guys actually believe nothing should change as far as our gun laws are concerned. If you’re on a terrorist watch list, you shouldn’t have access to a gun. End of story.

In this case, why not. You’re put on the list if the government has enough reason to suspect you’re up to some shady shit. If you’re doing nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. So am I willing to prevent certain people rights in order to prevent another mass shooting? Absolutely.

      2. The Hacksaw

Manteen was on the watch list the first time because a coworker reported him as suspicious and the second time because a man from his neighborhood went to Syria and carried out an Aloha Snackbar mission. Manteen was cleared both times after thorough investigation and surveillance by the FBI. He was employed as an armed security guard for God’s sake, there obviously wasn’t anything concrete enough to limit his constitutional right to buy a firearm. Call me old fashioned, but I refuse to agree that we should limit anyone’s 2nd amendment right without any reason that went through a court of law.

Choosing between these is much harder then the most feat bracket. That being said cargos are still a strong favorite.

Really surprised Steve Holt made an early exit in the bracket. Had him picked as my Cinderella of the tourney.

6 months ago Steve Holt would have ran the table, but unfortunately TFM has bombarded us with so many terrible writers that it has watered down the Steve Holt hate.

Feminism is polling ahead of Bernie Sanders? I mean, I don’t like either but Comrade Sanders makes me even more irrationally angry than the fact feminists exist. Feminists have given us wonderful things like widely available plan B, whereas Sanders would only take.

10 years ago at 7:03 pm
    1. Fratman begins

Yeah but at this point Sanders is pretty much done for so we don’t have to worry about him anymore. Unfortunately however, feminism hasn’t changed at all, and is still running amok in this country.

Though I hate Sanders quite a bit, it’s his followers that are really the worst, and they aren’t done infesting Facebook and Twitter. He deserves to make the Final Four at the very least

Bernie may be done, but unfortunately his ideas and platform are becoming mainstream democrat positions on many issues. Like him or not, he is fundamentally changing the ideological makeup of democrat voters.

Noise complaints as the cinderella! Nothing worse than getting punished for having fun.

As of my vote, #8 Gun Control and #13 Filing a Noise Complaint are both tied at exactly 591 votes a piece. I’m very interested in seeing how that race turns out.

Apparently its not frat to believe in the second amendment to 50% of people voting.

Just a small fyi about the 2nd amendment. The federal government has the right to some degree of gun control because of the words “a well regulated”. While we can all agree that gun control is largely non fraternal, at the same time standing up the entirety of the amendment is the American way. I certainly don’t want people to have easy access to fully automatic weapons (ones used in Istanbul this week) but besides that Americans should be able to decide the property they own. Some gun control is good, too much is bad. It’s all about finding the right balance.

Don’t disrespect Ron Paul’s good name with this authoritarian bullshit. The well-regulated part is not referring to the right to own weapons portion. I could explain it, but I don’t have two pages to explain how commas matter in legal writing.
Furthermore, God gave me the right to my body and to defend it. The Constitution protects rights, it does not grant them. I will never respect any law that seeks to limit my right to life.

      3. Not So Sweetheart

Yeah the well regulated comment made me cringe, but let me just throw this idea out there: nobody wants to stop you from owning a gun (some people do but what they want won’t happen in this lifetime so I’m going to ignore them for now).
Good gun control is not meant to keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens, but rather it’s meant to make it easier to figure out who the lawful and healthy citizens are versus those who pose a danger to themself and others. If you are healthy and are not a criminal or suspected of being a terrorist, you have nothing to fear from gun control because at the end of it all, you’ll still be allowed to get your gun.

That’s under the assumption that those who compile no fly lists and other watch lists are 100% ethical and objective with their work. Even if they aren’t and we have to then go through the court system there’s no telling how drawn out the case could be leading it to be an expensive issue that may deter people from wanting to buy guns in the first place.

Did you watch the Libertarian Town Hall on CNN last week? This is the current position of the party. It’s like how we also believe that all drugs should be legal but we also realize that the world isn’t in a state that is ready for it so that’s why we aren’t pushing to legalize meth and harder drugs. Libertarians are idealist but we are also realists.

10 years ago at 8:08 am
      6. VandyConservative

Look, Johnson is far from representative of the entire Libertarian party. I’m not either in a few key ways. But don’t act like that’s what the party wants. No real Libertarian supports no fly list gun bans or an automatic weapons ban (or even heavy control of them).

10 years ago at 10:44 am
      7. Ron_Paul_2016

Yeah and hardliners in the party believe Polygamy is an acceptable practice but most of the party doesn’t think so. The reason Johnson is such a good candidate for the Libertarians is that he can connect the party with Independent voters (though personally I’m more of a fan of Bill Weld)

10 years ago at 12:10 pm
      8. Ron_Paul_2016

And to draw a line in the sand I was simply talking about the automatic weapons ban. My simple rational is we have a bad mental health problem grown in the last 30 years that not all Americans would be ready for that. While we need to work towards less restrictions, we can’t jump the gun. That how you get laws like the Patriot Act. Also the no fly list ban I in no way shape or form agree with any law that trumps due process.

In the next article, you should let us know who wins in a blowout, who wins narrowly (and by how much). I don’t feel like going back and looking, but I am interested to know. There have been some tight 50%-50% matchups this year.
