Throwback Thursday: Sean Connery on Slapping Women

In this interview with Sean Connery, Barbara Walters reminds him of a time he said, “It’s not the worst thing to slap a woman now and then.” Mr. Connery becomes seemingly agitated and goes on to describe when he thinks the situation “merits” a good open-handed smackdown. Essentially, Connery argues that if you’re having an argument and you’re trying to get the last word in and the woman won’t let you have it…then “it’s absolutely right.”

Obviously playing James Bond got to his head, so it’s only right that we watch a clip with some of 007’s more sexist moments:

So far I have enjoyed the jokes on this site, and even laughed at a few on this post. Yet this idea that hitting a woman is somehow fratty deeply offends me. As a man, a gentleman, and a fraternity man the whole notion is repulsive. Will I say that I have never wanted to show a woman who is pissing me off the back of my hand? No. Can I honestly say that I have never done so. You are god damn right. I am a southern gentleman and the prohibition against violence against ladies has always been an absolute. There was never anything negotiable about this in my childhood.

For those of you making jokes, more power to you. For those of you who are serious, burn in the deepest circle of hell. For the person that wrote this, you need to be hazed by a real fraternity. Real gentlemen have class and clearly you have none.

      Thank you RandR!

This is the kind of one-off, I-was-drunk-and-it-seemed-like-a-good-idea column that destroys the reputations of Greek organizations in the eyes of people on the outside. I know we don’t particularly care what the GDIs think, but to the guys making jokes, what would your mother or grandmother say?

The majority of you are respectful, successful fraternity men who believe in morals and having personal integrity. This is just uncivilized and crude, and it brings out some of the least fratty contributors on this site.

Also, I can’t imagine TFM’s advertisers (who they are so desperately recruiting on Twitter and Facebook lately) will be impressed to see this content associated with their brand.

And to any so-called fraternity man who hits a woman, remember that she’s also someone’s little girl. And that someone probably owns a shot gun (or retains a heck of a legal team).

Sailing_Sweetheart is exactly the kind of woman who needs a good slap. Same for RandR.

Sailing_Sweetheart, if she is any kind of respectable woman she wouldn’t wait for Daddy to get his shotgun. She’d get her own and take his low life ass down herself.

Would I ever hit a woman? No. Would I ever allow a woman to be struck in my presence? No. Do I laugh hysterically at good jokes about domestic abuse, just as I laugh at good jokes on a ton of other inappropriate topics? Hell yes.
