      There are a number of things that should be considered before jumping to the conclusion that the gift would be taxed such as whether or not it would be considered a gift from “Grandpa and Grandma” in which case $26,000 would be tax-free. Also, it depends on whether the grandparents have reached their lifetime exclusion limit.
