A UF Couple Got Engaged In Popular Dive Bar “Balls” Because They Love Balls So Much
If you’ve never been to the University of Florida, you’re missing out on one of the most interesting college dive bars in the country: Balls Bookstore. It’s known to most simply as Balls, but I’m a big full name guy (it’s “Italian Gator,” not “Pizza By The Slice,” UF kids — get it right) plus it’s always funny imagining Balls patrons’ parents coming to campus and seeing that all those bookstore charges they’ve been approving were not what they thought they were.
Balls Bookstore is the diviest college bar I’ve ever been to, and I mean that in the best way possible. The logo for the bar leads you to believe it’s going to have numerous billiards tables inside…
but there’s not even enough room for one. All part of its charm. It’s not even so much a bar (or bookstore) as it is a narrow hallway that somehow found its way into prime UF bar scene real estate.
Famous for biweekly “all you can drink” specials and daily cheap drinks that pack the shit out of the place to the point where UF students are literally standing on top of the booths, impossibly hardworking bar employees Rock and Squirrel, and frequent Ryan Lochte sightings, UF kids absolutely love Balls. Here’s a Facebook Live video taken by Balls staff to give you a little taste of Balls.
Clearly a great place to make great college memories, right? Well one UF dude thought it was the ideal spot for a life milestone as well.
I don’t know the exact story behind this proposal, but Balls was clearly very important to this UF couple. This makes me think about how college bar proposals should be more popular. It’s where many couples first meet, go on dates to, hang out with friends at… College bars proposals sure as hell have a lot more meaning behind them than Disney proposals or jumbotron proposals or that lame shit where you tip the waiter $10 to stick his dirty hands all over the engagement ring then drop it into a glass of champagne. Balls will always be a part of this couple’s story now, as it should be… Unless he was just drunk and decided to do it there for no real reason. That’s cool too, I guess..
Getting engaged in college. NF

I have never heard any UF student call that place “Italian Gator” once during my entire time there. That shit is Pizza by the Slice

8 years ago at 11:50 pmWhich is worse – having to tell your child that you met mommy while she was servicing a dude in a stall at a shitty bar in Florida; or that you asked her to marry you at that same bar?
