University Of Arkansas Lets Fraternities And Sororities Reserve Skyboxes At Home Football Games, Is Awesome
The University of Arkansas announced last week it is creating a system that will allow student organizations to rent out four SkyBoxes for home football games in Fayetteville.
Nicknamed FratBoxes and SororiSuites, each SkyBox will accommodate up to 150 students in a decked-out space within Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
From UA:
Beginning this football season, student groups may reserve one of four available student skyboxes located atop the south end zone of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Each skybox will include a reserved area with a tent, carpeted flooring, lounge furniture, two big screen TVs and full sports oriented cable package. In addition, a section of bench seating will be reserved exclusively for Skybox holders.
“After last football season, ASG President Tanner Bone came to the Athletic Department with a problem and solution,” said Chris Freet, Senior Associate AD for External Relations. “Student groups wanted a defined areas to congregate together, especially during Homecoming and Family Weekend when they are hosting alums and parents. Based on his recommendation, we have moved the existing tents forward so they are flush against the seating area and we’ve created an intimate environment that can be reserved on a game-by-game basis for less than $5 per person.”
I’ve never been to Fayetteville for a football game, and I can’t speak to the quality of SkyBox seating, but this sounds like a really cool opportunity for student organizations. Living lavishly during college football season is half the fun, and watching from one of these areas sounds like an absolute blast. Depending on the alcohol/food situation, I can’t think of a sweeter deal for college students than this setup.
Hopefully other schools will follow suit. Although, I can’t imagine fraternities will get first dibs on a SkyBox after they inevitably trash one.
Arkansas hosts six games this season, including UTEP, Texas Tech, Auburn, UT Martin, Mississippi State and Missouri. Clearly, some students will score better deals than others. All in all, props to Arkansas for coming up with an innovative way to improve the gameday experience for students. Forward this message to your school’s athletic department and ask for them to do the same..

10 years ago at 4:27 pmSkybox is a loose term b/c it’s really just a tent at the very top of the south endzone. More tailgate than skybox. Either way it should be rowdy.
