University Of Illinois At Urbana-Champagne Urges Students To Call Police If They See Another Student Smoking On Campus
To enforce their newly implemented, campus-wide tobacco ban, University of Illinois administrators sent an email to students urging them to call the police if they catch one of their peers lighting up on university grounds.
From The Daily Illini:
The massmail encourages students to call the University Police Department to dispatch an officer if they see the policy being violated on campus.
The punishment for being caught is as follows:
First-time offenders will receive a written warning. The second-time a person violates the act, the offender will be charged a $25 fine that can be waived through an online education program. A third violation is punishable by a $50 fine; each additional violation is punishable by a $100 fine.
Seems like a waste of resources, especially when you consider the significant presence of Greek life at the University of Illinois. With cops being called for every lit cigarette on campus, who’s going to protect students from the evil fraternity men luring women into their rape castles with sexually suggestive signs?
With the anti-tobacco movement sweeping college campuses across the nation, it’s only a matter of time before an equally stupid and unnecessary means of handling tobacco use comes to your campus..
