I am a southern girl from Virginia with family in Texas and Georgia. I attend SoCal now, and in all honesty, we frat hard. Yes, it isn’t the same as south, but in many ways it is very similar. I am a Kappa at SC, and many of my friends back home are in Kappa at UVA, UGA, and W&L. From talking with them and visiting their schools, I can honestly say there is not much of a difference in terms of values and frattiness.
All of the trash talking about “liberal”, “granola eating” trojans is, quite frankly, hilarious. SC is known for being incredibly conservative politically, although it has grown slightly more liberal in recent years (due to GDIs, no doubt). Despite that, in the ’08 election at least half of the fraternity houses displayed giant McCain banners.
Also, get your facts straight. I pay 56k to go to school here, not 40k. In all likelihood I will move back home and marry a nice, southern gentleman, but that does not decrease my love for USC greek life. Fight on!
