University Of Tennessee Seeks To Disband Greek Judicial Board

The University of Tennessee rolled out a new proposed code of student conduct that would eliminate the Greek Judicial Board.

If the proposal passes, the Greek Judicial Board would be replaced with a single Student Conduct Board comprised of members handpicked by the Vice Chancellor for Student Life.

The proposal excludes any mention of a Greek Judicial Board, the duties of which are laid out in the current student handbook:

If the proposal goes through as is, then it would be bad news for Greeks at Tennessee. The general student body is far less sympathetic towards allegations against a fraternity or sorority. And I’m not opposed to the proposal because I want to preserve a judicial system that enables “rich boys and girls clubs” to get away with awful things. It’s about preserving a judicial system where the people handling the allegations have some semblance of knowledge as to what Greek life is about — or at least a lack of hatred for it. If they’ve got Bowl Cut Judy, a double major in both Political Science and Gender Studies, presiding over a case of sorority underage drinking, then you can guarantee she’ll deal the harshest, most unnecessary sentence her position allows (she’s still bitter over how that recruitment video made her feel about her weird, triangle-shaped tits).

If this proposal passes, it will only exacerbate the number of Greek organizations wrongfully punished at the hands of unsympathetic and uncaring peer advisors. Let’s hope this idea of disbanding Greek Judicial Boards doesn’t become a trend at other universities..
