Old south was so much better when we could wear the Confederate uniformes. Thanks Alabama. I know it was prob made a bigger deal than what really happened. But still
Let’s talk this over like gentlemen. If you read up on some Civil War history, particularly the surrender at Appomatox, (which I assume is the subject of the ‘Osama’d’ quip), then you’ll find that not only did Robert E. Lee survive, but he saved thousands of men by ending the battle. In short, no, Lee’s crew was not ‘Osama’d,’ as none of them were shot in the eye and then thrown into the Arabian Sea.
Well, I’m not from the north, but it seems to me like not giving a shit about your soldiers’ lives is why they won. I mean, I get the whole saving lives thing, but nobody learns about “southern pride.” People learn about and remember winners. And don’t go calling me a yankee or un-American, or “NF” because of this. All I’m saying is Robert E. Lee may have been a better general than Grant, but Grant had a lot more balls to say screw it, and win at all costs.
The outcome of the war had nothing to do with who cared more about their soldiers lives. That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. I respect Lee for what he did at Appomattox, but the war was already decided at that point and even he knew it. The Union won because of population, it’s industrial nature, railroad system, and Navy. That’s an oversimplification, but the point is it had nothing to do with Grant having more balls or caring less about his men. As for those who take that the wrong way and think I’m a Yank, I’m not. It’s just history.
the north won due to an advantage in not only its population, but its industrial strength. my grandfather still has his great grandfathers griswold and gunnison revolver. if you dont know what that is it was a company who made revolvers in the south. they only made 3,600 of these revolvers. to compare it put that against just one of the north’s well-known companies, colt, who sold the union just over 100,000 revolvers. they had heart, but they just did’nt have what they needed. proud southerner
Carbro you are a fucking idiot who doesn’t understand history (and we all remember your post about the flatbills), Lincoln was republican and the South is traditionally democrat up until the creation of the dixie-crats America’s favorite third party
Seriously, how can you make an argument against Old South? I’m going to go ahead and assume sorry4fratting was kidding, because even the name alone is probably the frattiest thing possible. Old and South. Things that are old, and things that are southern. Even better, things that are old AND southern. Seems fratty to me.
You might be trolling, but I don’t care, I’ll explain anyway. I assume you’re referring to the statement “Things that are old, and things that are southern,” in relation to, “Things that are old AND southern.” The first statement is a commentary on each adjective separately, to mean, “Things that are old are fratty,” and, “Things that are southern are fratty.” The next statement is a combination of the two, which I assert would only compound the amount of frattiness present in the tradition of Old South. (Ergo, “Things that are old AND southern are fratty.”) It does leave the reader to make inferences based on the context, but I assure you the same thing was not said twice, and that it was entirely your fault for misunderstanding it.

13 years ago at 12:14 pmWait, so Robert E. Lee was fratty because he gave a shit about poor farmers’ lives? Sounds like a Democrat to me…
13 years ago at 12:41 pmHe gave a shit about soldiers lives. His soldiers, in fact. If you have a problem with that, then you might just be in the wrong country.
13 years ago at 12:43 pmWell, I’m not from the north, but it seems to me like not giving a shit about your soldiers’ lives is why they won.
