“Hello Neil and Buzz. I’m talking to you by telephone from the Oval room at the White House, and this certainly has to be the most historic telephone call ever made. I just cannot tell you how proud we all are of what you have done. For every American, this has to be the proudest day of their lives.” President Richard Nixon
”Today is kind of melancholy for me – the last shuttle launch. It was a big part of your lives and my program. That amazing bird provided for our family very well. It flew for 30 years, an incredible machine.” — Dad
I have to disagree with being disappointed in killing off NASA. It was a government run program, and out of the 50+ years it has been open, their greatest achievement was getting to the moon. That was more than 30 years ago. Make space exploration a private industry, and the International Space Station will be finished before new years. Supporting government run industries other than the military. NF. Privatizing every aspect of industry in the US of A and only having government for regulation. FaF.
“It was a government run program, and out of the 50+ years it has been open, their greatest achievement was getting to the moon.”
I’m going to find you in 50 years and see what your greatest fucking achievement is, sir. In the 50+ years of our space program, we cock slapped multiple commy countries in the face to let them know we are the greatest country on this God given earth.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. The research done by NASA is responsible for a great deal of technology in the world today. How do you think your cell phone works?
NASA is a essentially a think tank. When you put a large group of great minds working together, they invent amazing things. They have made many things that we take for granted today possible.
^^^ You all seriously expect that a bunch of federally funded scientists would have found the cell phone earlier than if they were privately funded? Let me give you an example of the difference in motivation- “Here’s a few billion dollars NASA, try and make something cool” vs. “If you fuckers don’t make something cool that will make billions of dollars you’re all fucking fired.” Any one with a brain is gonna take the first option, because same pay and no work needs to be done. I mean really, we are all in college, and you STILL require someone to explain private vs government?
I’m all for capitalism bro, I just do not like the fact that anyone could join in. I like the pride that comes with it OUR space program versus other countries. Once you privatize it, anyone can join in. Now we have cheap Chinese knock-off rockets blasting off on American soil. I love what it STANDS for.
Fair enough. But we all know Americans do it better, so we would stick kick ass at it, and throw some hefty regulations on it, and you eliminated the safety hazard. Plus the only reason 99% of the shit that comes from china is cheap is because its is for sale to the end consumer. Space exploration and information would be sold to governments and big spenders, not Dick and Jane that live down the street. The guns being carried by our soldiers were designed by private firms, and are by no sense “cheap quality”. All I’m saying is that if you have someone getting paid whether they do their job or not, you’re not gonna get shit done.
There’s gotta be nothing like riding at 4 miles a second on America’s biggest firework. Here’s hoping NASA finds something bigger and better to replace it with in the next few years.
Still 44 minutes bro
