VIDEO: Pirates Prospect Turns Must-See Double Play

Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Stephen Alemais, who plays for the team’s Single-A affiliate, the West Virginia Black Bears, made the play of the year (so far at least) in baseball last night when he turned a miraculous double play in their game.

MLB has its fair share of good gloves, but that was just as impressive as anything you’d see in the bigs. First, you have the ability to still have the presence of mind to throw it to first while you’re falling down. Second, you have the accuracy and zip on the throw to actually nail the runner at first too. Incredible.

While Stephen is going to get all the glory for this play, let’s not forget about the unsung hero in all of this: the catcher. If it wasn’t for that one-hop throw from home, none of this would have ever happened.

My ideal double play would be a murder-suicide involving SteveHolt and Wally.
