Video Surfaces Showcasing Absurdly Awful Turf Conditions At Super Bowl 50

I guess this video didn’t really surface as much as somebody simply took a closer look at it, but I’m really glad they did.

Here’s Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Michael Oher, listed at 6’4″, 315 pounds, gracefully gliding across the turf at Levi’s Stadium during Super Bowl 50 like he’s an air hockey puck.

This Twitter user’s response perfectly summarizes all of our thoughts.

Oher seriously does look like an electronic tabletop football player out there.

“I

Could this have been Oher’s fault? Technically. I suppose if he convinced the Panthers’ equipment manager that going the whole country club “no spikes allowed in the clubhouse” route was in the cards for the biggest game of the year, then he could be culpable. It’s much more likely that Levi’s Stadium’s shitty turf is to blame, though.

It definitely doesn’t help that Oher is trying to guard the eventual Super Bowl MVP, either, but that’s neither here nor there in this instance. No man as massive as Michael Oher should be able to just slide across a playing field like that. It doesn’t even look like he’s tearing up the ground beneath him. How is that possible? We need some answers.

The turf for the Superbowl was grown offsite over the course of a year, and installed weeks before the game, and then covered the whole time when not in use. This wasn’t the usual Levi’s stadium turf, which further proves the leagues ineptitude.

It’s not the actual turf as much as they can’t get anything to root in. Which is ridiculous given that two of the most prestigious schools in the world that probably have pretty decent botany departments are located nearby.

To be honest this does look photoshopped, he starts sliding back almost before Miller even touches him and if you zoom in and pause at the very end the painted on yard marker lines look to be overlapping Michael Ohers ankle

Ah nevermind it’s not a linemarker, just the string that they hang overhead cameras on

He’s blocking DeMarcus Ware, not Von Miller. Von was on the other side eating RT Mike Remmer’s lunch.

I’m a huge Panthers fan, but let’s face it: did we really think that ol’ Roger Goodell would let Cam and the boys from Carolina beat Peyton in what is likely to be his last Super Bowl? I mean…the whole game screams “set up.” First the reply assistant, now turf…what’s next?

Wait, so the Broncos played on different turf? Huh, learn something new every day.

Looks like a false start on the RT here. Moves a split second before the snap
