Week 7 College Football Picks: Well That Escalated Quickly
Last week, we got a little too rowdy a little too early and missed the deadline for our football picks. They didn’t end up on the site, but they did make their way to Twitter, for those of you who follow us. Somehow, we went 5-4 in our week six shit storm and it will leave us scratching our heads for the rest for the season. It took almost 80 years for us to see five of the top eight teams in the AP poll lose in the same weekend. Some kid out in Washington threw for over 700 yards. Another kid in Mississippi took the goalposts home and the school started an online fundraiser to pay for it. God bless America and God bless football.
Without further ado, your TSG Lock of the Week:
TSG Lock of the Week
Washington State @ Stanford
Spread: Stanford -17
TSG Pick: Wazzou +17
Summary: As we said last week, we aren’t sure how often Stanford will be able to convert drives into trips to the end zone. Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday threw for a record-shattering 734 yards against Cal last Saturday. They lost the game, sure, but if Mike Leach and Washington State know how to do anything, it’s how to put points on the board. The Cougars haven’t lost a game by more than seven points this entire season, which includes a game against Oregon. We aren’t confident Wash State pulls this one out on Friday night, but we are sure Wazzou will cover 17 points against an offensively anemic Stanford team.
BYU @ UCF
Spread: UCF -2.5
TSG Pick: UCF -2.5
Summary: BYU basically lost all of their team production when Taysom Hill was carted off of the field last weekend. We had high hopes for BYU, but the Cougars are an average-at-best team with their potential Heisman QB on the sideline. UCF win this Thursday night’s game at home.
Georgia @ Mizzou
Spread: Georgia -3
TSG Pick: Mizzou +3
Summary: Oh baby. This game will almost certainly decide the SEC East crown. These two teams are only slightly above average and are consistently inconsistent, but it’s still a game with big time implications. Georgia runs the ball. Mizzou can’t really stop the run. Mizzou can score points in a hurry and Georiga’s shown it is willing to give up points one way or another. Gurley will most likely rush for three touchdowns and somewhere around 150 yards, but it won’t be enough. Mizzou is returning two starting WRs to the roster against a depleted Georgia secondary. For the second year in a row, Mizzou will catch Georgia at just the right time and Mark Richt will continue to prove that he can do the least with the most.
Oregon @ UCLA
Spread: Oregon -3
TSG Pick: Oregon -3
Summary: Both Oregon and UCLA received their first losses of the season. For UCLA, this had been a long time coming. Besides the ASU beatdown, the Bruins have looked like an average ball club. Mariota and Oregon now need to score 70 points a game and pray to Jesus, Lucifer, and Allah that other teams stumble to get back into the playoff mix. There are just so many qualified teams ahead of them that Oregon has to do everything it can to show out here. Oregon wins this one big against a “great opponent.” Duck fans will be happy, the Oregon babes will keep cheering, and Phil Knight won’t have to consider pulling the plug on his multi-million dollar moving advertisement.
TCU @ Baylor
Spread: Baylor -8
TSG Picks: TCU +8
Summary: We were all over TCU when they opened as ten-point dogs, unfortunately we don’t post our picks earlier in the week. We’re slightly less confident in the Horned Frogs at +8, but it still seems like the smart play. Baylor has piled up some gaudy stats against their lineup of cupcakes and TCU has an offense to match their usual dominant defense. In what we expect to be a close game, you have to take TCU getting more than a touchdown.
Auburn @ Mississippi State
Spread: Auburn -3
TSG Pick: Miss State +3
Summary: This one is tough. With such a close matchup, we have to side with the home team. If the game were in Alabama, we’d probably pick Auburn, though. K-State was three awful field goal attempts away from upsetting Auburn earlier this year, and we assume that Mississippi State fans will provide just enough of an advantage to push their team ahead. We advise you lay off of this one, especially for parlay purposes.
Oklahoma State @ Kansas
Spread: OSU -21
TSG Pick: Ok State -21
Summary: 21 points is a huge gamble, but we will take it. Fuck the beakers. We will continue betting against Kansas football until the end of time.
Texas @ Oklahoma
Spread: Oklahoma -14
TSG Pick: Oklahoma -14
Summary: This one will be rough for Texas. Oklahoma inexplicably dropped the Red River Shootout last year and they are looking for revenge. Oklahoma also just lost their first game of the season guaranteeing Bob Stoops would take out his frustrations against the burnt orange. If the Sooners would have won last week, we would consider taking the underdog because of the uncertainty that comes with this rivalry. We do believe that, because of the circumstances, OU will route Texas in this one.
Chattanooga @ Tennessee
Spread: Tenn -26
TSG Pick: Tenn -26
Summary: Tennessee has played one hell of a schedule. This young Vols team probably doesn’t understand how important these de-facto bye weeks are, but they will after this week. Tenn deserves a huge win at home and it seems that it will be at the expense of Chattanooga. Butch Jones will reward their hard work by letting the points stack up until the clock hits 0:00.
Alabama @ Arkansas
Spread: Bama -10
TSG Pick: Ark +10
Summary: Alabama has been sloppy all season. This Arkansas game could not come at a worse time for the Crimson Tide. There are usually a few ways to respond to a potentially season-breaking loss: dust your team off and get back to winning ways or completely mail it in. Alabama will hit closer to the former, but their opponent will keep them in a dog fight. Alabama will find a way to win this one by a touchdown, but the Razorbacks will play them tight the whole game.
Ole Miss @ Texas A&M
Spread: A&M -2
TSG Pick: A&M -2
Summary: Ole Miss is riding high off of a great win at home against Bama. Texas A&M is trying to bounce back after the ass-kicking they received from Mississippi State. A&M at home against an emotionally drained Rebels team that may be getting a bit too confident seems to have all the makings for a big Aggie win. Vegas is baiting the bettors on this one, as they’ll only have last week on their mind. Take A&M at home at expect at least a seven-point victory.
USC @ Arizona
Spread: USC -3
TSG Pick: Zona +3
Summary: The Wildcats under Rich Rodriguez are just beginning to hit their stride and really gain some confidence. Last year, after their upset of Oregon, they went out and laid an egg against ASU. Hopefully with another year under their belt they learned from that experience and got right back to the grindstone for this week’s game. The Token Sports Guys think they have and with USC still recovering from the mess Lane Kiffin left will have a tough time winning on the road against a quality opponent (or not so quality) Boston College. Taking the home team as a dog here just seems too easy.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that last week’s success isn’t just dumb luck for the betting man’s sake. College football is just starting to heat up. For any fan victim of last week’s upsets, keep your head up. There are so many outs for as many as 20 teams to make the college football playoff, winning out could play your school into the mix. Like always, drunken commentary can be found @TokenSportsGuys from Thursday until usually the upcoming Thursday..

10 years ago at 7:15 pmTCU over Baylor? Hahaha, no fucking way. Baylor is going to destroy them especially since they’re at home. So Texas is now a cupcake? Hmm.
10 years ago at 11:02 amYou do know how a spread works, right?
10 years ago at 2:49 pmBeating the #1 team in the country absolutely does not lead to being emotionally drained. This team is more emotionally charged than ever before. I predict another incredible game from Bo and you know that Landshark defense is going to hurt people. Fuck the Aggies.
