When Baker Mayfield Returned To Lubbock Last Season, He Was Booed And Thrown Out Of Chimy’s

You know the age-old saying: “When you leave a beautiful place, you carry it with you wherever you go.”
Baker Mayfield, a former walk-on quarterback at Texas Tech, left Lubbock, the least beautiful town on earth, two years ago — probably because the thought of spending four years in that shithole of a town was driving him mad. He ended up transferring to Oklahoma, where he’s had a remarkable 2015 season that ended with him as a top-five Heisman finalist and the Sooners earning a playoff berth.
You think the good people of Lubbock are happy for their former quarterback? Not so much. When Mayfield returned to L-Town (no one calls it this) last November for OU’s game against the Red Raiders, he was booed and thrown out of Chimy’s — a Mexican restaurant and Lubbock staple.
From NewsOK:
Baker Mayfield said there isn’t anything Texas Tech fans said to him during his last trip to Lubbock that can be printed.
“No, there’s actually not,” Mayfield said Monday with a laugh. “At all.”
Mayfield, who was sitting out because of NCAA and Big 12 transfer rules, traveled back to Lubbock for Oklahoma’s mid-November 2014 game against the Red Raiders. The night before the game, he went to eat at Chimy’s with some friends and said he was asked to leave.
“Luckily I had just finished my food so I wasn’t too mad about it,” Mayfield said.
Mayfield said after he’d finished eating, former Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro came into the restaurant and the two of them started talking.
“I was talking to him when they kicked me out,” Mayfield said. “He told me I needed to leave.
“I asked him to give me a good reason, and he just told me I needed to leave.
“I said, ‘Listen, I obviously don’t need anymore problems in this city. I already have enough. I’m not very well liked here.’
“I just took my loss and walked out. I didn’t need any extra problems.”
As Mayfield left Chimy’s, he said the other restaurant patrons booed at him.
The good people of Lubbock, always classy and respectful. At least they didn’t poison the guy, but God knows they probably tried.
How could you blame a guy for trying to GTFO of that garbage west Texas town? Hell, I’m a Texas fan and even I’m happy he managed to escape to Norman. But to boo a guy who is just trying to enjoy some delicious Chimy’s the night before a big game before throwing him out of the restaurant? Classless..

10 years ago at 12:23 pmSteven, your headline says, “When Baker Mayfield Returned To Lubbock This Season..” But the story says it happened in 2014. You may want to stop copying off the paper of the special needs student.

10 years ago at 5:40 amNews travels fast Steve! Grow up
10 years ago at 10:25 amThe restaurant incident took place in 2014 when he wasn’t even playing. The game you refer to was this year. Your entire article is a cobbled-together piece of shit, as usual. Doesn’t TFM have a copy editor?
10 years ago at 10:34 amYeah, now you change it. I hope you lost your $25 for that one.
10 years ago at 10:47 amHaha i have nothing against Mayfield, but whoever wrote this has obviously never been to Lubbock. I currently go there, and all i can say is dont go to one of the most popular bars in lubbock, and ask to praised that your back, or to act like no one is going to same something to him. Mayfield knew exactly what he was going to get when he decided to go to chimys on a friday night. Because as everyone knows a friday night as Tech students means blacking out. Mayfield knew exactly what was going to happen. He was a bitch about having competition with Mahomes for quaterback so he left. Just always bitching, exactly why this article was written. To me it just seems like more bitching from Mayfield.
10 years ago at 11:11 amHe didn’t have competition with Mahomes you dumb fuck. He transferred at the end of the 13-14 season. Mahomes didn’t come to tech til the 14-15 season. They were never on the same team.
10 years ago at 11:19 amHe was competing with Davis Webb
10 years ago at 11:21 amI go to Tech too. Obviously wasn’t competing w Mahomes… He was competing w Webb who he is much better than. That being said for him to go to Chimy’s on a Friday night he’s expecting to get his ass handed to him.
10 years ago at 11:28 amHe probably walked in wearing all Sooners gear as well.
10 years ago at 11:38 amThey weren’t willing to give him a full scholarship and were having a competition. I have a feeling there was some falling out behind closed doors as well.
10 years ago at 11:36 amChimys is a restaurant in the same way Kim Kardashian is an actress, technically its true but everyone knows what you’re really there for.
10 years ago at 11:16 amDo you expect him to get a warm reception in Lubbock? He quit because he didn’t want to have to compete for the starting quarterback job. Get a clue Holt
10 years ago at 11:19 amHe transferred because they weren’t going to give him a full scholarship as well.
10 years ago at 11:37 amThat and ol Kliff Jumper fucked him mom.
10 years ago at 12:32 pmA. Stfu, Steve Holt. You know nothing. Lubbock or leave it.
10 years ago at 11:41 amB. “he went to eat at Chimy’s”-eating..uh huh, sure.
