Woman Who Tweeted “2 Drunk 2 Care” Before Killing Two People In Car Crash Sentenced

Tweeting and driving isn’t smart. Drinking and driving is just plain dumb. Combine drinking, tweeting AND driving, and you’re just a fucking idiot. That’s exactly what one young Florida woman did.

Kayla Mendoza was driving down the Sawgrass Expressway after drinking two fishbowl margaritas — never a good idea -— and got the bright idea to send a tweet out. Not just any tweet, though. Ms. Mendoza sent out an incredibly stupid and damning tweet.

I shit you not, she tweeted “2 Drunk 2 Care.” Only minutes later, she swerved into oncoming traffic, crashed head-on into another vehicle, and killed two innocent people.

The two people she killed, best friends Kaitlyn Ferrante and Marisa Catronio, were only 21 years old. Now, roughly a year and a half later, Mendoza, who plead guilty to two counts of DUI manslaughter this past February, has been sentenced.

Though the families of the victims, as well as the prosecution, sought the maximum punishment—30 years in prison—Mendoza will be serving 24 years behind bars, followed by six years probation upon her release.

While it’s good to see that justice has been served, and Mendoza will be punished for her incredibly stupid and selfish actions, no amount of punishment will ever bring back the lives that she took away.

It takes a real asshole to get behind the wheel and put other people at risk. But to willingly drive drunk and then essentially brag about it over social media? That’s an entirely different level of stupid.

Our judicial system sucks. She obviously knew she was too drunk to drive and chose to drive. It should have been murder not manslaughter.

Obviously I don’t condone what she did, but that’s not murder because it clearly wasn’t intentional

She intentionally got behind the wheel drunk and intentionally tweeted about being drunk while driving. She may have not intentionally killed them, but the actions that led to their death was intentional.

Honestly I’m surprised she was sentenced to that long. It’s fucked up, but it’s pretty common to see just a few years in a case like this. Good on that judge.

I feel like 10 or 15 years ago drunk driving was actually kind of “cool”, and that stigma is gone now, which is awesome. Drunk driving is awful, discourage your friends from doing it.

Yeah I fucked that up. Brain fried from studying for law school exams last two weeks. I appreciate a good grammar call-out, you know what I meant though. Don’t drunk drive, and shit on your friends that do.

It was unnecessary to put in studying for law school exams guy. Don’t be that guy.

Disagree, it explained the extreme mental exhaustion he has. I’m currently going through the same hell, and I’ll vouch for him that two weeks of 12+ hour days of studying really affects your ability to function as a human being.

Oh the bar exam is hard? That’s something us two law students didn’t know. Thanks for the heads up, dipshit.

Hey fuckhead keyboard warrior. I’m sorry your so exhausted. It must be really tough to take law exams. I wouldn’t know. Oh wait, I would because I have been an attorney for four years, you twat. But don’t worry, you probably won’t pass the bar. If by some miracle you do, good luck getting into a decent firm or getting a job because I sure as shit wouldn’t hire a fuckboy nerd like you.

I think convicted drunk drivers should have to register in the same banner as sex offenses. While stats show that only about 2% of sex offenders ever reoffend, the reoffend rate for drunk drivers is around 70% AND most accidents occur close to home. I’d want to know who to warn the kids about-the drunk neighbor.

Maybe I’m a little old fashioned, but I think we shouldn’t wish for anyone to go to Hell, even if they’re responsible for accidentally killing two people.
