Yes, it has been a weapon of choice for terrorists and communists in recent history, but it’s also one of the most popular rifles used by American citizens for self defense in the United States as well. I prefer the AR mainly because I love the .556 cartridge, but the AK is a fine piece of machinery as well.
Yeah, I agree with you on the 5.56 round. It helps that it’s only $0.45 a round for the most part. My .308 is over 1.00 a round, which kind of sucks sometimes.
It varies, and the 7.62 x 39mm is close in price to the 5.56 x 45mm where I live, but it’s more about the lighter weight and lower recoil that swayed me into going with the AR platform/5.56 cartridge.
