You Gotta Love This Fan Giving Bubba Watson Advice On Which Shot To Hit
You know that one guy in your golf group who always think they know what to do? They are the ones who are telling you this putt breaks left when it clearly is breaking right, thinking that they can drive the water 280 yards out, and are bragging about their game knowledge? They are annoying, and almost always never score the lowest of the group.
However, when you’re giving advice out to the pros during a tournament, that takes some balls. After Bubba Watson had drilled his tee shot into the rough, one fan let Bubba know what he should do with his second shot into the green. The fan asked him if he was going to go with a little 4-iron punch shot under the tree.
Bubba responded by telling him, “That’s why you’re on that side of the ropes,” before sticking the approach shot within four feet of the pin, and then was looking for the fan after the shot.

This story is not about Bubba telling him what he told him, and showing off after nailing the approach. While I’m all for that, I’m all about this guy just giving Watson his take on his next shot, probably with his caddie standing there, too. The fan’s basically saying “Hey buddy, I got this. I’ve been punching four irons for years and this is the right shot.”

Bubba is the most hated guy on tour by other players and it’s not hard to see why. Trying to talk shit to the fan after he had hit the shot just shows how unprofessional and classless he is. I remember the PGA at Valhalla when he refused to hit driver in a practice round on a hole where they were holding a long drive contest for charity. Why the media still tries to portray him as a good guy baffles me.
10 years ago at 11:27 amWhy is it classless to talk shit to some dude in the crowd trying to razz you? Especially when his “advice” is absolutely terrible.
Bubba is kind of a dick on the course but he’s also pretty funny. I find it far more fun to follow him than those robots (Tiger&Rory) that ESPN keeps shoving down my throat
10 years ago at 1:17 pmIt’s classless because what does Bubba, the multimillion dollar athlete, have to gain from putting down some dude who probably makes 5 figures, is a 20 handicapper, and is paying money to watch him play golf? Of course Bubba’s gonna have a better idea on which shot to play in that situation. He knows it, that guy knows it, the broadcasters know it, and everybody watching that tournament knows it. The guy who told him to go with a 4-iron punch more than likely didn’t actually think “maybe Bubba will take my advice!” He was probably just excited and was trying (unsuccessfully) to be funny. Bubba went after him like that for the sole purpose of being a douche. But that’s just my opinion, man.
10 years ago at 1:33 pmIdk, I’ve always found people who try to talk to pros before they swing to be the most annoying people on the course. So Bubba showing one up post swing doesn’t really chap my ass too much
10 years ago at 2:29 pmI’m sure the guy was excited that he got an actual response from Bubba. It was a little light-hearted trash talk, it’s not like Bubba ripped the guy apart.
10 years ago at 5:54 pmJust seems pretty unnecessary to me. The guy wasn’t trying to heckle him, just having some fun after he spent his money on the ticket and overpriced beer. As someone said in the comments a few articles ago, those guys are like gods when they’re on the course. And Bubba responding before and after the shot with put downs is really just using his superior position to pick on a guy who is probably a fan of his. I would be fine with it if he didn’t try to play the nice guy all the time. I like Tiger, Seve, and others who owned their asshole status and were good enough to. No tolerance for a guy who wants all the credit for being a great guy without actually being one. But of course Bubba doesn’t give one single fuck what I think, it will only start to matter to him if the general public changes their opinion on him.
