You Need To Be Watching ESPN 8 “The Ocho” All Day Today

Today, in honor of the date being 8/8, ESPN has transformed its ESPNU channel into the famed ESPN 8 “The Ocho.” Modeled after the faux-ESPN created for the move “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” The Ocho will live up to the mantra “Bringing you the finest in seldom seen sports” by bringing you a full lineup of great and entertaining fringe sports.

While most us of probably missed the early morning events (which started at midnight), they included the 2016 WFTDA Roller Derby Championships, Sky Zone Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball, and, just for Will, the 2016 American Disc Golf Championship.

Later events include the 2017 Championship of Bags (aka cornhole) at 12 p.m. EST and the EVO 2017 World Championship – Street Fighter tournament at 2:30 p.m., with the 2017 US Open Ultimate Championships at 7 p.m. rounding out The Ocho’s schedule.

I’m currently watching the World Darts Championship, and it’s my new favorite sport. Held in London right after New Year, it has the most insane crowd I’ve ever seen. The crowd is drunk as hell and belting out soccer chants throughout the entire match. Every time one of the dart throwers hits a 180 (the maximum in one turn), they go ballistic. And the competitors even get WWE-esque entrances. It’s nuts, and I want to go next year.

While Cotton McKnight and Pepper Brooks reportedly won’t be showing up, I’m going to be tuned into ESPN 8 all day. And as for ESPN’s decision to change ESPNU into The Ocho for the day?

It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for them..
