Zac Blair Disqualified For Using Putter He Bent After Cranking Himself In The Head With It

Zac Blair was disqualified from the Wells Fargo Championship on Friday for using a “non-conforming club.” Basically, any time a club is damaged in any way other than by playing the game, it becomes ineligible for use. Unfortunately for Blair, thwacking oneself in the head out of anger doesn’t constitute as “playing the game.”

From Bleacher Report:

Blair had hit himself in the head with the putter after missing a birdie putt on the fifth hole of the second round and then tapped the putt in with the same putter he had just unintentionally bent. He finally realized the damage he had done on the next hole, informing officials, who had to disqualify him.

Kind of stupid someone would be DQ’d for putting himself at a disadvantage. I guess there’s a way to bend your club that would put you at an unfair advantage? There’s no way he knew swinging a piece of twisted metal was illegal, either. Otherwise he wouldn’t have said shit to the officials.

Blair discussed his mistake on Twitter:

He’s been a good sport about the whole thing, too. He also tweeted out a gif of Woody Austin bending a club over the side of his head.

Breaking expensive golf clubs is frat. Anger on the field leading to disqualification is also frat. You got a fan in me, Blair.
