America Loved This Marine’s Response To The People Protesting For Free College

If you’re active on social media, you’ve probably seen one of your whacky, out-of-touch friends share a link about the #MillionStudentMarch — a movement for free tuition at colleges nationwide. That’s not all — it also demands that we, as a nation, forgive all existing student debt and raise the minimum wage for college employees to $15.
If your immediate response to that idea is a puzzled look and the question: How the hell can we afford that? Congratulations! You’re a rational, sane person. I mean, there is no question that college is becoming unaffordable and the student debt is a complete nightmare, but let’s at least try to be a little more realistic here with our demands, guys.
Even its own organizers can’t competently explain how America would be able to pull this one off. But boy, it sure does sound nice!
BREAKING: People are dumb.
You know who isn’t dumb? James Erickson, a Marine who had the perfect response to this entire movement.
I wanted money for school, so I marched too… #millionstudentmarch This one was about 25 miles… #USMC pic.twitter.com/bS6QN0KDtb

It’s been a busy, nonsensical week, and I am sure we all could have done a better job honoring our veterans, but thank you, James. Your rational thinking and service to this nation is something that I will be eternally grateful for.
Okay, tired of all these politics and #SocialMovement nonsense. Let’s see what is on Reddit..

Awkward moment when we paid for him to go to college, and apparently all he did was go on walks
10 years ago at 11:21 amFor those people who are stupid enough to wonder just how free tuition is possible, consider the fact that a single f-22 costs around 44k AN HOUR just to have. Do you know how many America has? Our defense budget is higher than the next 29 countries combined, 22 of which are our allies
10 years ago at 11:27 amOh sorry. Forgot he was defending our freedom from all of those terrorists that are just hoarding their oil
10 years ago at 11:28 amI’m assuming that most people on here are in a fraternity. In college. So as students, the fact that you would resent another, fellow student for wanting a free eduction simply because daddy had the money to pay for yours, is kinda despicable
10 years ago at 11:33 amYou’re assuming that no one on here has student loans, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Oh, and have you seen an F-22? Those things are fucking awesome.
10 years ago at 11:37 amAnyone on student loans wouldn’t have to look too hard to see the merits of free education
10 years ago at 11:41 amI’m not one for hand outs
10 years ago at 12:42 pmI prefer to be treated as an adult who is capable and willing of keeping my contractual obligations that I knowing and willingly accepted.
10 years ago at 12:19 amYa big airplane make people go boom. Murica.
10 years ago at 11:42 amAt first I was kinda with you, but then you mentioned free education and completely lost me, champ.
10 years ago at 11:37 amHow’s tbis, then. The United States government, with taxpayer money that some argue could have gone towards education, has given billions of dollars to South American cartels in exchange for fighting communism.
10 years ago at 11:39 amWe as a country are stripping money away from education and adding it to our armed forces and towards the militarization of our police forces
10 years ago at 11:40 amShe’s saying the rich need to be taxed higher. What you’re saying is the government should reallocate their wasteful spending. See, you should actually listen to the dumb broad before you say you agree with her.
10 years ago at 11:46 amYou and I agree that she’s an idiot. I just dislike the sentiment of someone in the military speaking sanctimoniously.
10 years ago at 11:49 amI didn’t come from a rich family and I am still paying back massive amounts in college loans. But guess what? I didn’t have to go to college, I chose to go to college. I knew what it would cost, and I still did it. If you don’t want to go to college don’t, but if you think I am gonna help pay for you after I have already paid for myself, you are out of your fucking mind.
10 years ago at 11:56 amI 100% agree that giving our military budget a bit of a trim would be a good thing. But free education for all is implausible you fucking moron. I’m on student loans, and will be missing my fraternities party tonight so I can work my shift at Jimmy Johns to afford the fraternity dues. Fuck you.
10 years ago at 12:20 pmNo were not. Government spending on education is at an all time high.
10 years ago at 11:48 amOur government spends billions on military spending, that is true. But guess where the companies who provide the hardware are located? In the United States. That money is then distributed to their suppliers and employees driving down unemployment and putting more money in people’s hands to be taxed for education. If you want to raise a budget for education, increase military spending so you increase domestic jobs.
10 years ago at 1:19 pmThe issue is that most of these Liberal Arts college degrees are worthless & College is turning into a 4 year vacation.. I went to ASU and it was awesome. The apartments by the school have a fucking Lazy river. Do you seriously think going to college and getting a degree in Minority Womens studies at a place like that is worth something in the real world? And I paid off my student loans myself. But besides that you do have a good point and more intelligence than that girl on TV.
10 years ago at 11:42 amI agree that college is becoming more and more of a joke. However, some people have every intention of making their time there worth every second, yet unable to do so because of purely financial reasons. But, since it’s absolutley necessary for any job with a respectable wage, I think it should be more available. That being said, money can’t be made from nothing, and i’m in favor of scaling back on military to make more room for education
10 years ago at 12:01 pmIf a student won’t be able to pay off their loans with the job they would after they graduate, they shouldn’t pursue the degree. There’s no reason to go to a 4 year school to learn how manage a McDonald’s when they could just go to community college for 2 years at a fraction of the cost, or even just go right to working and learn on the job as though they were an apprentice. Common sense should say, if you can’t pay off the loan, don’t take it.
10 years ago at 2:36 pmYou’re right. Let’s just make the government pay for everything. My gas bill for the past month was around $300.. Where’s my check? It’s only fair. Those damn 1%ers should be paying for my expenses because they don’t deserve their money. I deserve it.
10 years ago at 11:46 amSorry, I meant the government and the 1%.. Though they are the same thing according to dumbass liberals.
10 years ago at 11:47 amThe 1% are exporting jobs to China, Vietnam, and mexico, and not getting taxed at all, despite making auch higher profit margin. So not only are they screwing the other 99%, through the form of govt bailouts, we’re paying for them to do it. I’m not advocating for the punishment of entrepreneurship, just for the equal treatment assumed by a social contract between a society and government
10 years ago at 11:52 amIn order to tax overseas goods coming into the US you’d have to enact tariffs which is almost impossible in the new free trade economy. If you’re talking about profits being taxed – they still are. Other than that it is simple economics which you probably don’t understand. If a US company didn’t take advantage of oversees labor and production costs than their, as in another country’s, companies will flood the market with their cheap goods and put US companies completely out of business. Not to mention that our production costs would be so high that it would be impossible to export goods competitively if production remained here.
10 years ago at 11:59 amIt wouldn’t be a problem if we could just colonize an area like we did back in the good ol days.
10 years ago at 11:49 am“Colonize an area” are you talking about the genocide of native Americans, slavery of African Americans, or the massacring of mexican inhabitants on the western coast? It gets a lil fuzzy ya feel
10 years ago at 11:58 amGood Lord you’re an idiot. It isn’t a “genocide” as you picture it (I imagine you think of Europeans going around raping and slaughtering natives whenever they coul). 97% NINETY SEVEN PERCENT were killed by disease, most before they even saw or heard of a white man.
Slavery and colonization are two different things – for example, there was no slavery in India (unless you include the Indians who owned slaves) or in South Africa/Rhodesia. Considering that slavery existed in Africa before European contact (actually, the Muslim slave trade had millions more people in it and spanned from the west coast of Africa to India) and also existed in America among Native American tribes I find it hard to make a connection in your reasoning that colonizing Europeans caused slavery. And just because Native Americans were on the West Coast does not mean they were “Mexicans”… bigot.
10 years ago at 12:08 pmUm. What. Can you do me a favor, and Google this mythical disease that killed 97% of native Americans? then, after you realize that wasn’t a thing, go and look up the “school systems” early European settlers established for them…I think the mortality rate was around 70%. But yeah, that was probably disease too, just like that holocaust
10 years ago at 12:14 pmWow… I guess you can’t expect the ignorant to know everything. Ever heard of Smallpox?
“But weapons alone can’t account for the breathtaking speed with which the indigenous population of the New World were completely wiped out.
Within just a few generations, the continents of the Americas were virtually emptied of their native inhabitants – some academics estimate that approximately 20 million people may have died in the years following the European invasion – up to 95% of the population of the Americas.
No medieval force, no matter how bloodthirsty, could have achieved such enormous levels of genocide. Instead, Europeans were aided by a deadly secret weapon they weren’t even aware they were carrying: Smallpox.”

10 years ago at 12:33 pmI guess I was wrong, it wasn’t 97%, it was closer to 95. Whoops.
10 years ago at 12:37 pmInterestingly enough, many scholars believe this “mystery disease” was actually VD.
10 years ago at 3:10 amSlavery existed everywhere, thousands of years before civilized society came across. Key word there: civilized. There aren’t really any excuses other than savagery for slavery.
10 years ago at 12:15 pmSo how does establishing Afghanistan as a protectorate or territory of the US cause slavery to happen again?
10 years ago at 12:36 pmAnd, for the love of God, please earn your colonization history. The western coast (california area) was imperialized by Spain centuries before the puritans got there. This produced an indigenous population that got wiped out by America’s “right to expand from sea to shining sea”
10 years ago at 12:17 pmFor the love of God, please “earn” how to spell
10 years ago at 12:33 pmHAHAHA PURITANS! You really think the PURITANS in the 1800’s went to the West Coast and were part of your perverted form of Manifest Destiny that involved slaughtering Spaniards or indians or whatever the hell you think lived on the west coast?
10 years ago at 12:35 pmLets strap a bullet proof vest on you, give you a rifle, and send you into the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. I bet you’ll be thanking the lord for every penny the DoD spent on your sorry ass. If I have to pay a little extra out of my paycheck to make sure our soldiers have it a little better out there that’s fine by me. And the F-22 you wanna bitch about A) doesn’t cost 44k an hour to have, that’s total bullshit, and B) gives us air superiority so we can support our troops and those in our coalition and C) Isn’t used nearly as often as our drones which are more cost effectively.
Also in regards to education and defense spending, if you have a problem quit bitching and work the system. It’s called the montogomery GI bill and post 9/11 GI bill. Do your 4 years, there’s your premium education. In fact the military will most likely give you a better, and more practical, education then you’ll find in any college classroom. There’s a reason people hire vets over civilians. Fuck you.
10 years ago at 11:56 amYeah, you’re kinda missing the point. I’m arguing that there shouldn’t be any money being spent there AT ALL. All america is doing in the Middle East is installing military bases and killing anyone who says otherwise
10 years ago at 12:11 pmYou’re a special kind of stupid aren’t you… I guess our overthrowing of a dictator oppressing a population (See Sadam Hussein treatment of Shiite Muslims) and trying to prevent the spread of a pseudo-nation that embraces beheadings and live burnings of people makes us the barbaric murderers. Kindly fill up your nearest sink and drown yourself in it.
10 years ago at 12:20 pmFor the record, I think that girl’s an idiot; I just wanna point out that not everyone (minorities) can even qualify for student loans and due to cases like brown v board of education (disallowing separate but equal schools) happened only a generation ago, so their kids are the ones in favor of making higher education more available and enticing than a career in the military. The one person has more money than the rest of the 99%. Do you think that was the fruit of their hard labor, or wealth inherited from a time when the rules were disadvantaging others. Just my two cents.
10 years ago at 12:05 pmDamn liberal.
10 years ago at 11:21 am“The 1% that hoard the wealth” don’t you mean the people that worked harder than the other 99%?
10 years ago at 11:24 amDamn right. My father came from a third-world environment in a second-world country. His father didn’t have a job that payed for fourteen years. But you know what? He still went and did the job rather than collect welfare, because he had some sort of self pride. And it wasn’t flipping burgers in a nice air conditioned building, as a veteran he was digging holes for irrigation companies. My father came to the U.S. with 25-50 dollars and now, while we are not the 1%, we are in the top 3%.
TL;DR Have some Goddamn pride in hard work
10 years ago at 1:45 pm“Yea, I mean…”
Fuck her, fuck what she stands for, and quite frankly fuck anyone that thinks that just because someone has more money than you they owe you something. You owe them something, you bottom feeder, because without them you wouldn’t have shit.
Sorry guys. These liberal fucktards piss me off
PS- #keepitPC2015

10 years ago at 11:28 amsteve holt is making me hate good articles
10 years ago at 11:40 amSteve Holt does post a lot of shitty “articles” that he just copies and paste from reddit. This isn’t one of them.
10 years ago at 1:42 pmLiberals are so fucking stupid. They think that investing money into homeless people and getting them houses and cars will solve the economic issues that plague cities. No motherfuckers. Not everyone wants to work to succeed. They just want to succeed at the cost of the middle class. You could give some, but not all, homeless people a house and a car and they’ll sell it, buy a ton of crack, and be back on the streets in a month. Fuck liberals #standwithrand #fuckyousteve
10 years ago at 12:07 pmThis bitch says that 100% taxation on the one percent is socialism, but that 90% is OKAY!?!? The problem with these asshats is they have no common sense whatsoever! So if you make 300k a year and then are taxed 90% you are taking home 30 thousand dollars which is nearing the poverty line! How on earth does that make any sense?!?
10 years ago at 12:08 pmI’m assuming it’s not a flat tax of 90% but still in brackets so only the money you make over 250,000 or whatever the limit is taxed at 90%. Regardless, yes it’s still stupid.
10 years ago at 12:49 pmDon’t agree with her model to pay for it. Absolutely agree with the idea of free public colleges and cutting student debt.
10 years ago at 12:32 pmSo we shouldn’t be held to our contractual obligations. I knew what I signed up for and they should have too. If they are adult enough to try to change the world then they are mature enough to be expected to uphold their end of a bargain.
