Louisiana Governor Threatens To Shut Down LSU Football

Last night, Louisiana Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards addressed the state about the current budget crisis. He noted that schools across the state could run out of money by April if his tax increases are not passed. This means that the schools will shut down. He also sent out a dark message about college football:

Here’s the full quote:
“If you are a student attending one of these universities, it means that you will receive a grade of incomplete, many students will not be able to graduate, and student-athletes across the state at those schools will be ineligible to play next semester. That means you can say farewell to college football next fall.”
Technically, that includes every school in Louisiana, but I feel like the message isn’t as strong if you’re threatening to shut down Louisiana-Monroe or Louisiana Tech football. Want to really get people talking? Go for the golden jewel of the state: the LSU Tigers.
You’ve got to think that LSU will still be building their massive L-S-U shaped lazy river. I’m positive that these are just scare tactics in order to push forward an agenda. No one actually believes that LSU football will be lost next year, right?
I spoke with our resident LSU guy, Bogey Wells, to get his reaction on the whole thing. He didn’t go into much detail, but had this to say: “Yeah, fuck him.” I think most of us here share the same sentiment..

Fuck democrats, they don’t have a collection problem of tax dollars they have a spending problem
10 years ago at 12:37 pmBlame fucking Jindal, I lived under that irresponsible dumbass. We had a BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS when he came in and blew it trying to appeal to the establishment and prepare for his (embarrassing) presidential campaign. Education funding was being destroyed under him and now the shit’s hit the fan. Sadly, Edwards is already being blamed for these issues even though he’s only been in office A MONTH. Edward’s first day of office allowed thousands of LA residents to get healthcare, but sadly the state is so in debt that it’s going to be tough for a whole…my friend’s who stayed in state for school are all freaking out and I don’t blame them. Fuck Jindal and his fiscal irresponsibility
10 years ago at 1:29 pmHell, my friend was told OVER A YEAR AGO while touring LSU that they were having extreme money issues. She’s about to lose all her credits for the semester. Not only that, but it’s low income college students and hospitals in low income areas that are taking the blame.
10 years ago at 7:24 pmHe’s trying to make people in Louisiana choose between tax hikes or no more LSU football. I’m sure he’ll be re-elected in a landslide…
10 years ago at 1:31 pmThe worst part of all of this is who higher education is not a dedicated/protected fund in the state budget. Edwin Edwards (corrupt as fuck governor in the past) set these funds aside and allow current legislature to slash them to make the budget work. Allowing us now to be in this situation with the school. And Fuck Edwards, Fuck Dems, Geaux Tigers.
10 years ago at 1:48 pmWeird that you didn’t mention any governor more recent than Edwin Edwards in your partisan verbal diarrhea.
10 years ago at 3:02 amHoly shit you guys are all idiots. He’s not going solely after football, he’s saying schools will be shut down because there is no money left thanks to Bobby Jindal. I know most of you guys are Republican, but bashing someone who has been in office for 1 month is just plain stupid.
10 years ago at 3:14 pmYup he’s a demo.
10 years ago at 6:23 pmThat will be good for recruiting next year
