Louisville’s President Wore A Sombrero For A Halloween Party And The World Is Pissed
The insensitive costume police aren’t just gunning for defenseless fraternities these days. They’ve expanded their scope of operations to include anyone who the media might want to run a story on.
University of Louisville President James Ramsey is under some intense fire right now. It all stems from a picture posted online of Ramsey and staff at a Halloween party at an off-campus house. The entire squad is decked out in Mexican attire, and the internet warriors are predictably pissed.

They’ve got it all: sombreros, maracas, colorful ponchos, and even stereotypical Mexican facial hair. It’s like a Christmas (wait, do I need to use a neutral holiday now, instead?) morning orgasm for the internet’s social justice warriors.
Even with what appears to be a coordinated effort, the costumes were allegedly not planned and are the doing of the university president’s wife, who gave away ponchos and other stereotypical Mexican garb to party goers as they arrived. Her reason being that she “loves Halloween.” Simple enough for us. Outside of our bubble of rationality, however, the emotions are tipping the opposite end of the scale.
Sure enough, faces of the university immediately began tossing their two cents into the fire and fueled a shitstorm that is yet to be quelled.
From USA Today:
Olivia Krauth, the editor of the student newspaper The Louisville Cardinal, wrote Thursday that “if a fraternity threw a party with a Mexican theme and pictures of them in these outfits got out, they would be in huge trouble just like countless other Greek organizations across the country in the past few years. … As the president of a university, I would expect more.”
Not long after the activism picked up steam, the university decided to release a statement of its own apologizing for the incident.
“We made a mistake and are very sorry,” Kathleen Smith, chief of staff to the president, said in a statement, which noted her office had met with a top official of U of L’s Office of Hispanic and Latino Initiatives and shared “our deep regret for the hurt this experience has caused.”
University spokesman John Karman said that he is unsure if any action will be taken against the president because nobody is certain how university policy would apply to the incident..

“Office of Hispanic and Latino Initiatives”
This tidbit made me angry.
Also – “what appears to be a coordinated effort” was in fact a coordinated effort, you donkey.
10 years ago at 11:18 amPeople in Mexico don’t wear sombreros – they wear jeans and t-shirts just like everyone else. These hypersensitive assholes need to chill the fuck out.
10 years ago at 11:36 amFor once, I just want someone to just say that they aren’t apologizing and that whoever is so offended needs to find something more important to cry about.
10 years ago at 12:14 pmQuit…. apologizing……..
10 years ago at 12:53 pmSo dressing up like a Mexican is offensive to Mexicans? With that logic, a Gestapo costume would be just fine because I’m only offending Nazis.
