Republicans Skipping RNC Are Talking Mad Shit About It

RNC

With the kind of circus show a Trump RNC has already become, it’s no wonder some of the big players in the GOP have decided to sit this one out. Obviously, these are some of Trump’s most bitter critics, and they haven’t been shy about sharing exactly how the feel about the clusterfuck in Cleveland.

From NPR:

Sen. [Ben] Sasse will not be attending the convention and will instead take his kids to watch some dumpster fires across the state, all of which enjoy more popularity than the current front-runners,” a spokesman for the Nebraska Republican and frequent Trump critic told The Hill.

Damn! Listen up, this is some of the best political shade you’ll read all RNC:

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, who clashed with Trump in his attempt to mend fences with congressional Republicans earlier this month, has said he will be “mowing my lawn,” according to the New York Times. Montana Sen. Steve Daines also told the paper he’ll literally be gone fishing (fly fishing, that is).

Many others have scheduled foreign trips and dentist appointments in lieu of going to the conference. Gov. John Kasich took it one step further and actually pledged to speak to the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce right across town in Cleveland at the same time Trump himself will no doubt be plagiarizing another Obama speech.

Romney has called Trump “a fraud and phony,” and will be boycotting the event as well. Other notable party elites joining him include the Koch Brothers, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nikki Haley, Marco Rubio, and Condi Rice.

Most prominently, all three Bushes will be also skipping the RNC. Dubya and H.W. are still penning their mic droppers, but maybe Jeb said it best. When asked by CNN if he was going to Cleveland, the former Florida governor responded a flat “no.”

We’ll see how this all turns out, but hey, I guess I can always respect wanting to skip work to watch a dumpster fire.

Republicans hating and bashing each other won’t be very funny when Hillary is sitting in the Oval Office………

Thank you. Honestly people would you rather see Hillary in office? Republicans bashing each other is only making Hillarys campaign stronger. But of course Republican pussyfoots keep whining about Trump being the candidate. Accept it and support your party damn it or we could be headed toward a much worse direction

      1. Keep It Buttery

Trump’s opposers within in his own party likely see it as remaining loyal to their idea of what a Republican candidate should be, rather than propelling Hillary to Presidency. Perhaps assuring the longevity of the Republican Party as a whole is their priority, and they’re willing to tolerate Hillary in office for one term.

The party also needs to think about down-ballot elections. The amount of damage Hillary could do is a lot worse if she has a Democratic majority Congress. If these candidates feel this is what will allow them to retain their positions, it may not be the worst thing in the world.

10 years ago at 10:53 am
      3. Randomwhitedude

You make a point. Sadly, Trumps opposers are propelling Hillary to presidency as it shows that if the party cannot unite, why republican? Hillary is a criminal and it really blows my mind how she got away with a serious federal offense and the fact she will most likely become our next president just shows how much the United States will tolerate bull shit.

What will be funny is when Paul Ryan tells Hillary to fuck off when she tries to push anything through Congress though.

If he’s still speaker. There’s a chance the whole Trump fiasco will lead to GOP losses down ballot, and it’s not at all out of the question that the left could take control of the house.

10 years ago at 10:58 am
      2. ZeteNJ

GOP could lose the Senate, outside chance. They won’t lose the House though. No chance. Since bills of revenue originate in the House, you can’t get anything off the ground without control over the House. Ryan likely won’t let Trump do too much either, which is good.

As a lifelong republican, I’m pissed about this year’s candidate and convention. Basically, any normal reasonable person would have crushed Hillary, but we are stuck with the one douche bag who can’t. #Johnson2016

You realize by not voting for Trump you’re solidifying Hillary’s win right? You may not like him but this is common sense. You have to pick one or the other.

10 years ago at 9:35 am
      1. Edgar_Allen_Bro24

A vote for johnson is not a total loss. Trump has almost no chance of winning, but if Johnson gets 5% the libertarians will gain unprecedented access to future ballots and be a check on the two fucking morons currently running. I’d love to see johnson debate these two clowns.

10 years ago at 9:44 am
      2. Bmichaels

“Trump has almost no chance of winning” he’s down by 2% in the average of polls, and only losing because idiots like you are willing to compromise the Supreme Court for decades because you didn’t get the exact candidate you want. Gary Johnson is a farce, and it’s either Trump or Hillary. Time to accept reality chief.

10 years ago at 7:53 pm
      3. Backyard dumpster fire

Yeah, so I hope you realize that since this is such a tightly contested race, and Johnson actually has a massive group of supporters in new Mexico, to the point where he could win the state, and has enough support in Maine and Nebraska to win 1 delegate from each of those states; if he wins 1 more state besides those, no candidate will get the 273 electoral votes they need to get elected, which will force Congress to decide on who is president, and they don’t even have to pick one of the current candidates runNing. So really the best chance to get a competent president this election cycle would be putting your support behind johnson.

10 years ago at 11:16 am
    2. Edgar_Allen_Bro24

Plus there is hope. Theodore Roosevelt nearly pulled it off in ’12 and ross Perot would have in ’92 if he didn’t awkwardly drop out and re enter.

      1. RageEveryDay

A large percentage of parties said they would prefer to vote for someone else other than the two main candidates, the thing is, not many people know about the alternatives. Johnson is currently polling at 12%, if he gets to 15% he will have to be included in the national debates, which would be huge. We need more people talking about Johnson and raise awareness rather than just accepting Trump and/or Hillary.

This douche bag got more GOP primary votes then anyone else in history. Do you not like how democracy works?

10 years ago at 9:59 am
      1. Edgar_Allen_Bro24

It’s not exactly democracy because the states vote one at a time, rather than simultaneously. So some states are given a disproportionate amount of influence in the process and many people’s candidates are out before they get a chance to vote.

10 years ago at 10:03 am
      2. RageEveryDay

Not to mention “having the most votes” doesn’t mean you win the presidential election. Just ask Al Gore

      3. crazysig89

RageEveryDay, the election in 2000 was a very close election. You can not compare that with the 2016 primaries. If you would of replaced Trump this year, a better comparison is the election of 1824 (which was the most corrupted election in U.S. history.) Trump got 13 million votes, Cruz got 7 million votes. Do you really think the 13 million people (who voted for Trump and the many more Trump supporters) would show up in November if the GOP fucked them in the convention?

10 years ago at 11:23 am
      4. RageEveryDay

Since half of the people who support Trump only do it because he’s “Better than Hillary”, yes, those people would definitely show up to vote against her on Election Day. Trump and Clinton are both facing off against literally the only candidate they have a chance of beating. If either dropped out and was replaced, the replacement would win in a landslide victory.

10 years ago at 11:32 am
      5. Fratty_Roosevelt

54% of republicans voted against him even as the primary herd thinned out. He just won key areas and skirted the nomination because of that. His disapproval rating shows that, and he is only the nominee because of a minority of far, far right social/authoritarian wing zealots.

10 years ago at 4:10 pm
    4. Ramsay Bolton

I can’t vote for Johnson because he wants to cut military spending by 43% and he’s in favor of amnesty and open borders with Mexico. Trump isn’t ideal but he’s way better than Hillary.

How is letting a bunch of unskilled and uneducated illegal immigrants into our country fiscally responsible?

10 years ago at 5:37 pm
      3. Donnie Fratzoff

Because we have a shortage of low skill labor, and current minimum wage laws and other nanny state rules make hiring cheap labor difficult. Illegal immigrants make sure we fill that necessary labor sector at an extremely low price thus keeping general costs for us, the consumer, low. And in a consumer dominated economy that’s good.

Those are the same cucks who advised Romney en route to losing an election that he should’ve dominated.

Trump swings back, and he hits hard. Some people don’t like that. I expect that from Democrats. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever expect to see it from the party of Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan.

10 years ago at 9:33 am
    1. Larry_Sellers

I don’t think “swinging back” and speaking his mind is what these Republicans don’t like about him. Probably has to do more with the fact that several of his views and policies blatantly conflict with the GOP platform and conservative ideology in general.

All these RINOs are all Democrats in my book. All they are doing is helping Hillary win the White House with the baby shit. They are acting like Trump didn’t give them a bid.

10 years ago at 9:57 am
    1. RageEveryDay

Idiots like you calling every conservative that even slightly disagrees with you a “RINO” is the reason we are in this mess and have a divided party in the first place.

10 years ago at 10:01 am
      1. Saber and Key

Yup. If “RINO” Kasich or Rubio were the nominee they’d be crushing her in the polls and the GOP could be focusing on how to win down ballot.

10 years ago at 10:08 am
      2. crazysig89

They are RINOs because they are liberal on illegal immigration. They are RINOs because they work for special interest and not the people. That isn’t capitalism, that is big government corruption. They are RINOs because what they are doing is helping Hillary take the White House, helping the DNC take the Capitol Building back, and helping progressives take control of the Supreme Court. You guys need to quit the baby shit. Your candidates lost the primaries, get over it. The division is caused by you, not Trump. He got more GOP primary votes then anyone else in history. The people have spoken, are you against democracy? Your actions are going to the hurt the Conservative movement for the next 30 years. Far worst than anything you think Trump could do to it.

      3. VandyConservative

Yeah Trump isn’t a conservative bud. Your only leg to stand on is that Hillary is worse. That’s where the debate is. Not calling the anti-free trade, flip-flopping authoritarian a conservative

10 years ago at 10:44 am
      4. Saber and Key

He got the “most GOP primary votes in history” while also getting the most GOP primary votes against him in history as well. High voter turnout is what lead to that record. If you look at percentage of primary votes he lags behind many previous nominees.

10 years ago at 10:51 am
      5. crazysig89

You guys are missing the point. A major problem with the GOP in recent years is the GOP turnout during presidential election. Mccain and Romney lost their elections while millions of registered Republicans did not come out to vote for them. A lot of Registered Republicans won’t turn out if they don’t like the GOP candidate 100%. This is the real reason why Obama won two election. The party need to change this. Say what you want about the DNC but they got there shit together when it comes to “staying in line.”

You can talk all you want about how Trump doesn’t put up with pc bullshit and how he’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind. But if you honestly believe Trump is good for politics and the GOP you’re probably a high school tryhard who failed US government and think getting a dry handy is “fuckin tite”

Hillary sucks but doesn’t rock the boat. Trump would capsize the boat. While I wouldn’t normally advocate someone who’s essentially Bush/Obama 2.0 with a snatch, compared to the anti-free market populism of trump, I certainly would.

Keep an eye on Jeff Flake. Charismatic, relatively young, libertarianish Republican Senator. Hope he’s positioning himself to beat Hillary in 2020. Exactly the kind of guy the GOP needs. My first choice is Rand Paul but I think he’s actually too smart and professorial to appeal to the masses. Flake has the policies and the personality. Trump isn’t going to be president and he’s a Democrat anyway. I’m already looking to 2020.
