Rolling Stone Column Reveals Disturbing Rape Culture At UVA, Phi Psi House Attacked In Protest

A disturbing article recalling an alleged rape at the beginning of the 2012 school year was released Wednesday by Rolling Stone. The article detailed an incident that occurred in the University of Virginia’s Phi Kappa Psi house during a party.

The victim, Jackie, claims to have been gang-raped by several Phi Psi members and pledges.

From Rolling Stone:

Jackie was just starting her freshman year at the University of Virginia when she was brutally assaulted by seven men at a frat party. When she tried to hold them accountable, a whole new kind of abuse began.

The column describes the adversity she faced following the attack, along with pressure from friends and, seemingly, UVA to stay quiet and avoid making the situation public. Obviously, Jackie’s story didn’t sit well with some people, and the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity has been under siege since the story’s release.

Early this morning, the vandalism began, as “protestors” threw cinderblocks through the Phi Psi house’s windows. They followed their destruction with several spray-painted messages around the walls of the house.

The vandalism has caused the university to station police officers outside of the house to deter any further defacement of the house.

The national fraternity issued a press release on Facebook Wednesday that stated it is aware of the situation and is investigating all allegations. The Facebook post triggered a string of illogical, generalized rants against the fraternity.

Earlier today, the UVA chapter voluntarily suspended its Fraternal Organization Agreement, and it will cease all activities for the time being.

Take a deep breath and think… This is not on an entire chapter. This shit never is. Even if it happened, don’t blame everyone.

If you’re wearing your letters and people know you’re in a fraternity, you’re a representation of your entire chapter and national organization. Whether you do something good or bad, that is how people will see it. That’s why you hear more negative news stories about Greeks than independents. It’s easier to attach a news story to a whole organization than it is one person. It’s unfortunate, but one bad egg can spoil the whole bunch.

If there actually were rapes phi psi deserves to be punished, but vandalism definitely isn’t acceptable.

Maybe not every guy who lives in this house his guilty. But if you read the Rolling Stones article, it read that there were multiple girls in previous years who had experienced the same things Jackie did in this house. Which shows that it’s not just those boys that hurt Jackie who are guilty. It shows that what they did was required of them as pledges in order to become a “brother.” Brother in quotations because this is unlike any brotherhood I’ve witnessed in my greek system. This specific chapter has lost sight of what they are supposed to stand for. It’s sick.

If this is true they needed to go. If this girl lied to get attention, which many college girls do she should rot in hell.

    1. If these guys did do it, fuck them. But it requires due process and more people are on the hook here than just the alleged perpetrators (UVa Administration).
    2. Stories like this help in that they bring the situation to light, but the over-reaction by the public here is out of hand. If you don’t believe me….

Isaiah Lester is clearly a bitch that would get destroyed. If these allegations are true, then these individuals deserve severe punishment. However, when did we become a society that bows down to the dumbest fucking people on planet earth. The justice system decides guilt, not the Derelict Court of Public Opinion. Society becomes dumber by the day. If these Phi Psi members are guilty, I hope they are dealt with. If they are not guilty and this is another Duke Lacrosse charge then I hope individuals like Isaiah Lester get to eat their teeth.

Rape is a heinous crime. However, if this happens to be a false allegation this proves that the phrase innocent until proven guilty doesn’t hold an ounce of strength in our society now in days. There is a mile long line being too drunk (not roofied) and participating in activity that is not your norm versus seven guys physically holding you down as you scream “no” and “help”. If the later I mentioned is true, those seven will tarnish a whole chapter, and should be ashamed of themselves.
